They were L7's sworn enemies (L7 accused them of being pay to play types) and as such I cannot let Donita Sparks and the crew down.

Share Pederson couldn't have been a play-to-pay type. Bubble is the apotheosis of that kind of thing. That said, it's the pretty girls with good outfits and hair vs. skanks in rags thing. Girlschool really made skanks and homely work. L7 did for a while and they probably had much better control of their publishing, so although Vixen did sell more, they probably saw it go to all their arranged songwriters and managers.

Vixen to Rev It Up in Sweden: Threat or Menace?Vixen to Appear at Sweden Rock Festival June 9-11, 2005 www.swedenrock.com
The best of Vixen: Veterans or ringers, you decide!
A collaboration of seasoned talent, Vixen was reborn in 2002. The band combines the performance and songwriting skills of such experienced professionals as Jan Kuehnemund (guitar) and Lynn Louise Lowrey (bass), with the high-energy rhythm of Kat Kraft (drums), and the passionate voice of Jenna Sanz-Agero (vocals) to create a subtle explosion. Vixen coerces you gently with a melodic groove until suddenly you’re in the midst of a potent rock song. This is the power of Vixen.
Jan discovered the musical talent of Jenna and Kat from L.A.-based bands (including Belladonna, NoNo BadDog, and Some Like It Hot) and Lynn joined Vixen from Florida-based Armadillo Sandwich (by way of Atlanta’s Wigged). After a successful national tour with the “Voices of Metal”, Vixen returned to L.A. and began working on new songs and a fresh sound. Vixen classics How Much Love, Not a Minute Too Soon and Love is a Killer are stories retold from a fresh perspective. New songs Little Voice and Love Song are destined to be hits.
Elevated levels of chatter indicate possible future terrorism
Vixen is currently recording in Los Angeles.
Find and listen to the records by Bubble. They are fun and vigorous glam rock.

As a child, I attended Sunday School with Jan!

eight years pass...
I was just reading the Vixen wikipedia entry last week for whatever reason, and they had the typical revolving door of membership in the post-fame years. Jan was the band's founder, though.

I just posted this over in the Rolling Obituary thread. 51 years old. God.

RIP. Probably not the place to quibble, but she was a few years older than 51.

Aww RIP. My favorite Vixen appearance is, of course, as the band Diaper Rash in Hardbodies.

Did you love VIXEN? The Minnesota Historical Society is showing through this Sunday only (November 23rd) a small display of items from Jan Kuehnemund, founder and lead guitarist for the 1980s all-female glam metal band Vixen. The exhibit is in the first floor elevator lobby of the Minnesota History Center in downtown St. Paul. The curator who acquired the objects writes: "Jan passed away from cancer last year and her family recently donated her guitars, gold record, stage clothing and personal papers to MNHS. Today (Tuesday) would have been Jan's 61st birthday."
