Has anyone got either of their 2 (I think 2) mix albums? For some reason the albums are 20 pounds each over here but I may buy them when I am in London later this month.

But are they any good? And which one is better? I obviously would like the one with the Chemical Brothers remix of Spiritualized. Yes I'm predictable like that.

20 pounds each over here - Ronan - has anyone told you about the € euro yet ;)

I listened to a deep dish mix of Moscow on the radio last year, on a radio 1 one world special - and was impressed This Review describes the sounds of the Moscow album

Deep Dish has 3 mix albums available, Yoshiesque, Yoshiesque 2, and Global Underground: Moscow. You can't really go wrong with any but Yoshi 2 and Moscow have the most current, relevant tracklistings. Yoshiesque 2 is the one that opens with the Chemicals remix of Spiritualized, and it's good - CD1 is more of a laid-back "proper house" mix aside from the Chemicals remix while CD2 gets more into the normal Deep Dish prog house stylings, more stuff you might actually hear them play out. Their mix for Global Underground is more like that, a lot of the darker percussive stuff with some vocals.

I have the first Yoshitoshi which I like a lot, but it's not a "necessary" release as such. In its favour: perhaps the most "swirly" house mix ever; Deep Dish's current trick of walking the line between deep house and prog house works really well because they avoid the pitfalls of both (polite grooves and nothing else vs over the top arrangement but no groove at all) and manage to include most of the benefits. I also like it because it sort of moves between abstraction and pop and back again really naturally, and in that sense is totally different to, say, the Global Underground albums, which generally tend to sound like one long track.

I haven't bought Yoshitoshi 2 and will stand by this decision until it appears cheap; for now the one compilation is fine. However I can't recommend their older album Junk Science highly enough. It seems to have been forgotten since they changed their style, but it's basically Leftism done better ie. a mixture of gorgeously listenable dub-house tracks with unexpectedly successful pop moves (but who could have suspected said pop-moves would sound like house-takes on The The and Depeche Mode?) and even a surprisingly credible jungle track. And I say this having quite liked Leftism.

they also did a double mix cd for renaissance ibiza..its relatively recent..summer 2001..and (i think)groovier than the yoshiesque mixes..

Oh yes.....I forgot about the Renaissance Ibiza set even though I've got it sitting right in my collection....obviously I find it more forgettable than the other 3.....LOL I dunno I like disc 1 of that set but CD2 seems a bit too much pedestrian non-melodic chug-chug prog house to me.

I saw them do a set at Twilo and was underwhelmed. Too much bibbity bibbity for me. I think some of their remixes are fantastic though (no idear on specifics but I know I've heard em)

What Tim said in re. Yoshi1 is on zee Euro. Saw them spin once at a festival: very, very good. A strange sort of tech-house update of the Moroder-sound, extremely danceable. And they closed with their ace 10- minute remix of 'Music'.

tracer I've seen them live here in Miami a couple times, and they underwhelmed me both times - in my opinion their mix CDs are more entertaining than their live sets. Too much noodling with dull tracks, though I think many "prog house" DJs are guilty of this these days.

i guess relevance to today's scene's is all important in enjoying dance music, but whoever said is right: Junk Science is a classic house album....for more housey deep dishing, DDR presents YoshiToshi compilation..about 6 years old, but i still enjoy it...probably deleted.,

does anyone like their remix of iio's "Rapture"?

four years pass...
Penetrate Deeper is rather under-rated I feel. Busy, bouncy, bolshy and unashamedly happy throughout - some of the best mid 90s deep house there was and must've sounded so good on massive club systems then.
