wouldn't einar make bjork's solo career better?

the sugarcubes' records are far more interesting than bjork's solo work. you can't really tell me that medulla wouldn't have benefitted from him barking at the listener.

That guy people wished wasn't even on the Sugarcubes recs? Definitely!

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Monday, 7 March 2005 07:31 (twenty years ago)

I never understood the Einar hate, really. The guy has feelings. He always reminded me of Fred Schneider.

TWO MEN NEED ONE MONEY BUT ONE MONEY NEEDS NO MAN

i thought debut was pretty solid, but post feels like it could have used some einar. maybe he should record an album called "oblongata" to play simultaneously with bjork's new one?

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Monday, 7 March 2005 08:51 (twenty years ago)

If Einar was stuffed inside a potted plant hanging off the ceiling with tape over his mouth to ensure he couldn't speak or sing, he would make Bjork's solo career better, yes.

You guys should listen to K.U.K.L., the band Einar and Bjork were in before the Sugarcubes, I recommend The Eye (Holidays In Europe/The Naughty Naught isn't.. bad.. it's just really hard to wrap my mind around still). They were on Crass records, but the two albums just got reissued via One Little Indian/Rough Trade.

Essentially, the music is heavily creepy and psychedelic and would scare anyone who only likes The Sugarcubes' "Birthday", "Motorcrash", or "Regina".

Also, both Einar and Bjork guest on one of the most underrated Icelandic rock bands, Bless, on their 1990 album Gums. Great stuff. Gunnar, Bless lead man, recently put out an album called Stori Hvellur under the moniker Dr. Gunni which is excellent..(no Einar or Bjork though)

Also, K.U.K.L.'s song on the Geyser comp released on Enigma in early 1987 was great too.

At the time, I used to find him completely irritating, but time has taught me that he was THE FUCKING BEST THING ABOUT THEM!

Where is Einar today?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 7 March 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

and I also don't get the Einar hate. I think the Fred Schneider analogy is a really good one.

Einar also invented Dieter from the SNL skit "Sprockets". If you saw the "Motorcrash" performance on SNL, Einar did robotic moves in a proto-Deiter fashion while wearing a very tight black suit. Soon after, the first "Sprockets" skit would come along. HMMMMMM!

I didn't really appreciate Einar until someone compared him to Flava Flav--I guess that made more sense.

I love Bjork's solo career and I can unreservedly say that had she brought Einar with her, she would have been the greatest artist of all time.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 7 March 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

einar still lives in iceland and makes music and helps bjork with some buisness stuff.

charleston charge (chaki), Monday, 7 March 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

If sentiments of this ilk are common:
he has a solo album out but i cannot find it anywhere.

I think it is far to say that bjork would make einar's solo career better.

gspm (gspm), Monday, 7 March 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

Think how "Bachelorette" would be even more awesome with Einar on it! Or "Isobel"! Or "Aurora"!

I love Bjork's solo career and I can unreservedly say that had she brought Einar with her, she would have been the greatest artist of all time.

I've always wondered what kind of spin he would have had on "All is Full of Love" or "The Anchor Song".

The Smekkleysa online shop will be closed down today Monday 7. March 2005 for maintenance. Please feel free to browse the shop though. The shop will be open again, when this notice has been taken down. We apologize for this temporary day off! :)

That isn't so useful however. There is an Einar mp3 on the page though for those who are curious.

Also, K.U.K.L.'s song on the Geyser comp released on Enigma in early 1987 was great too.

I have that!

the compilation track 'Man On The Cross' is a slightly different version of 'Greece (Just By The Book)' which is on "Holidays In Europe (The Naughty Nought)" by the way.

useful public service, Monday, 7 March 2005 21:54 (twenty years ago)

For the sake of all that is holy, no, einar orn would not improve bjorks solo career. Every time he pops up in a sugarcubes song, I feel like taking a drill to my skull. Einar Orn = self-trepanning for John, which would make John sad. Or really happy, if I hit the right spot...

John Justen (johnjusten), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

Einar would make Public Enemy's career post-1992 better for sure!

Every time he pops up in a sugarcubes song, I feel like taking a drill to my skull.

Oh, you say that like it's a bad thing.

Seriously, he's the entire reason why songs like "Shoot Him" and "Eat The Menu" work so well! He's definitely fulfilling the Fred Schneider function but unlike FS he's always great unless the song itself sucks (like, for example, "Hit").

You guys should all go and check out the "Ghostdigital" CD he did, it's lots of trumpets and crazy noises and weird rapping and it cements your Flava-Flav idea. It's a cool record. He played a set at Joe's Cafe in New York of the "Ghostdigital" material like a year ago or so . . .
