The "Volume 1" curse

This is the curse that occurs whenever a band releases something by putting "Volume 1" in the title, ensuring that there never is a sequel.. examples..

* The Clash The Story Of The Clash Volume 1 (Granted, there have been dozens of greatest hits by the Clash since, so the purpose of a theoretical "Volume 2" has been satisfied by now)

* Olivia Tremor Control Black Foliage: Volume 1

any others?

Traveling Wilburys, Volume One?

There was no second volume per se; they released a Volume 3 in 1990. That counts as a sequel, no?

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Ned, I knew that title was wrong but I'm far too inebriated to fact-check. What about Use Your Allusion while I'm on?

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, there's the Hall and Oates comp Rock and Soul Volume 1...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Use Your Illusion never really used the word/concept "Volume"..(ok, now I'M being pedantic)
