Totally.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 03:08 (twenty years ago)

I agree, but you might want to search the archives because there's ample discussion on the lads.

stephen morris (stephen morris), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 03:09 (twenty years ago)

There's really no other band quite like them.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 03:18 (twenty years ago)

hahaha

sleep (sleep), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

i would like to simulate an intergalactic pinball machine/vacuum cleaner as my contribution to this thread

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 04:12 (twenty years ago)

I had their version of "Gimme Shelter" with Samantha Fox on backing vocals in my head on the way home from work tonight!

Curt W, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 04:16 (twenty years ago)

i would stab any of you for an original vinyl copy of "space ritual."

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

my girlfriend has one on her wall.
this is why she is the Best Girlfriend Ever.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 04:59 (twenty years ago)

El sabor, no violence needed. It's not impossible to find, actually.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

that said, I think everything even up to and including Quirkness is great. Their best is In Search Of Space, Space Ritual, Doreme Fasol Latido, and Hall Of The Mountain Grill.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

i think the first hawkwind album is great, but it's not a great hawkwind album.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

el sabor very much OTM with that last post.

the first album is ... weird. but insanely great nonetheless!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

I mean "Hurry On Sundown" might be the most atypical track they ever recorded. It's great though.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

How about that superlate period where they sound like they are nervously lookiing over their shoulder at punk rock- check out the song "Death Trap" for weird stop start madness .. .

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

Hashish Hasheen Hashish Hasheeeeeen

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Fuck yeah. The 92 One Way Records Hall of the Mountain Grill might be the worst transfer ever of any album onto cd, but somehow all the static, especially on "Goat Willow," enhance the music, like cracklies in old vinyl.

Hoky Moky, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

First album ctd- having the track "Paranoia" mimic the slowing to a treacly halt of a dying turntable was a moment of comic genius for a stoner band

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

The album "Space Bandits" sucks pretty bad, tho.

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to hear more of the later stuff. I saw Dave Brock's Hawkwind play in '89 and they were fucking excellent.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

El sabor, no violence needed. It's not impossible to find, actually.

Yeah, not to be a jerk but I have 2. Please don't stab me twice, you'll find a copy someday.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

pashmina phay told me arthur brown was singing for them like a year or two ago!

charleston charge (chaki), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I saw them ergh, I forget, there's a thread I started about it where I hate on DiV. Arthur Brown was singing for them live, and it was great!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
So good, so CHEAP! Recently bought with Australian "dollars":

In Search Of Space + Doreme Fasol Latido two-fer = $15
Space Ritual = $15
Hall Of The Mountain Grill = $9

You'll not find most bands' best records for that outlay, that's for usre.

'haitch' (haitch), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

I'm sticking with the EMI reissues of a few years ago.. they sound the best of the bunch, though they are kinda spotty to find. (then again, I should just check amazon)

donut debonair (donut), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

for "sure", even. Yes DD, these are the EMI ones.

'haitch' (haitch), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

Haitch: Where?

Is that place in Southbank still going? I remember them having it, like 5 years ago.

Is it Dragonfly?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 24 March 2005 03:58 (twenty years ago)

Dragonfly and yer local JB Hi-Fi. well, the Preston JB, anyway.

'haitch' (haitch), Thursday, 24 March 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

Fuck yeah indeed. Like a crank binge in deep space warmed over with some hash.

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

kamerad, Thursday, 26 March 2009 03:18 (sixteen years ago)
