Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 04:52 (twenty years ago)

The Cure, Faith & Pornography

I don't know if this has ever been released in the first place, but the complete Fall Peel Sessions (2 cds) 1978-2004 will be released as well.

buck van smack (Buck Van Smack), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:03 (twenty years ago)

Satwa.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:03 (twenty years ago)

The Fall Peel Sessions thing is 6 cds, not 2.

svend (svend), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:09 (twenty years ago)

Even better, thanks!

buck van smack (Buck Van Smack), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:10 (twenty years ago)

Ariel Pink's Worn Copy (just got mine in the mail today. woo-hoo!)

poortheatre (poortheatre), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

reissues are rubbish.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 10:14 (twenty years ago)

More ambient Eno, more ambient Eno. Hmm, which ones? Music For Films, Apollo, for sure, More Music For Films, and maybe Thursday Afternoon, I'm not sure.

Deluxe (Damian), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

Scritti Politti!! Early, surely the best reissue of the year so far

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 10:27 (twenty years ago)

kirsty maccoll - titanic days .. on ztt with extra disc of remixes etc.

interesting as this is a lost album.

but apart from a few good'uns here and there its a little too dull for me.

still pushing for the ztt reissue of CA$H by Nast Rox Inc .. (word reaches me that this has been whistered about in the relevant places ..)

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Damn straight Stormy!

The Cure's Seventeen Seconds, a Pylon two-CD set of b-sides and rarities, possibly Associates - The Affectionate Punch...

Ian Riese-Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

Mountain's Nantucket Sleighride has just been put out again. Maybe not exactly what the world was waiting for, but I secretly sort of want that!

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone know if Sony is going to do another batch of Dylan re-issues this year? Or are we left for eternity with the first generation editions of Self-Portrait, Empire Burlesque, etc?

Apologies ahead of time if this turns into a "what should be re-issued in 2005" thread...

Keith C (kcraw916), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

David Bowie, Stage and Live. Well, I'm happy with them anyway... (esp. the first one is a Blast).

I hear nothing but praise for that Scritti Politti reissue so I'll definately give that one a listen.

willem (willem), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

delta 5

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Ooh, Pylon? That'll be great.

I'm still holding my breath for Family Fodder, Our Daughter's Wedding, Desperate Bicycles, Passions, Delta 5, Rip Rig Panic, Diagram Brothers, Dalek I Love You, Nasmak, Human Switchboard, Maximum Joy, The Times. . .

Most of those seem at least somewhat possible, now that Green let the early Scritti stuff get reissued.

I.M. (I.M.), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

Is Matador doing Wowee Zowee?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

They managed to fit The Fall's Peel sessions onto just 6 CDs? Blimey.

Nick H (Nick H), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

Return of the Giant Slits, only in Japan, though. Allegedly the Kraftwerk reissues, but I'll believe it when I see it. Read somewhere that Six Finger Satellite were getting reissued, or a retrospective comp, or something through Sub Pop, which is really irritating me now since I can't find the page I shamelessly stole the information from. Another Arthur Russell comp on Audika (multi-disc orchestral thing, apparently). More Can reissues- Future Days, Soon Over Babaluma and, er, Landed IIRC.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

The Smithsonian Folkways reissue of Luiz Bonfá's Solo in Rio 1959 is outstanding.

Jeff Reguilon (Talent Explosion), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Lots of Marvin Santiago.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Lots of Kirsty MacColl, actually. "Kite" (plus 10 tracks), remastered. "Electric Landlady" (plus 5 tracks, remastered). And the two disc edition of "Titanic Days." And then - boxed set! All by the end of this month.

look what i found in the Boomkat newsletter:

JUST ICE - Back To The Old School
Fresh
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=16697

Oh my god!! One of my fave ever old school hip hop (though it's so beyond hip hop) albums get's a gleaming repress via those increasingly fine chaps at Traffic. Known (justifiably) as THE place to witness the incredible meeting of the producer and edit engineer aka Kurtis Mantronik and Chep Nunez. Is there anybody left on earth who's not fallen slackjawed upon hearing 'Cold Getting' Dumb' (here also in the hella rare remix version 'Cold Getting Dumb II' - maybe first ever time on CD) - words do no justice :) to these two tracks, a massive influence to plenty of our new school heroes like Autechre and even DJ Shadow, especially both in their earlier adventures in sound. Then there's the ill freestyle title track, uptempo weird electrobreakbeats, hyper rhythmic scratches "crew of the year 1986" - sh*t don't get no heavier, tha' boom. Keeping the essentialism in place you have 'Turbo Charged' - utter sick, sparse 808 boom, cowbells, echoic classic with an amazing Just-Ice rap. The classic 12" track 'Put That Record Back On' is another highlight. When Mantronik and Nunez lay it off then it's a defining album in the rapper vs beatbox era and a dawning of the hardcore lyrics in hip hop vibe (make sure your mom's not about when you play 'That Girl Is A Slut'). While you are it search down 'Kool & Deadly' as well, Just's classic hookup with KRS-One. 'Back To The Old School' is a true underrated classic. Essential. ..

MBV Creation EPs but I'm not holding my breath.

I think you've been able to pre-order these on Amazon for over a year now haha

I remember Pitchfork reporting some time ago that Kev was planning on remastering Loveless along with the EPs (and maybe Isn't Anything)? Is any of this still true?

poortheatre (poortheatre), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

cardinal is being reissued, right?

reo, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

Hari, don't tease us like that! Nice to see Delta 5...and my mother (bless her heart) found a copy of Return of the Giant Slits and bought it for me. Like most Japanese imports, it was about $28.

Ian Riese-Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

Just got the expanded Hex Education Hour in the mail today. Great stuff!

Duty Now for the Future and New Traditionalists by Devo.

Supposedly, the entirety of Killing Joke's back catalog is being re-released, but typically, there've been no hard facts to report.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 12 March 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

Are the Kraftwerk reissues out yet?

Nope. And given the glacial pace at which Kraftwerk, er, werk, I doubt we'll be seeing them until at least early next year. More likely to surface than the MBV box set(s?), but it's gonna be a long-ass time. They have gone to the bother of redesigning the covers, though- you can see them here (http://www.kraftwerk.com/info/CD/katalog.html). Sort of a minimalist/iconic look that doesn't really work, especially on Autobahn and Radio-Activity. Though the redesigned Man-Machine somehow makes them look even more comically stern and Teutonic, which is no mean feat.

Telephonething, Saturday, 12 March 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

Anyone have an Amazon or other retailer link for that extended-mixes collection? It looks great, but with such a generic title, it's kind of difficult to track down...

Telephonething, Saturday, 12 March 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

I've been putting off buying any Kraftwerk because I think they could really do for a remaster.. do you think I should keep on waiting?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Saturday, 12 March 2005 04:01 (twenty years ago)

the 80s comp was in the Music Non Stop newsletter:
http://www.musicnonstop.co.uk/store/mnsnews110305.html

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 12 March 2005 04:18 (twenty years ago)

Woo! "Carnage Visors" on CD, finally! You, sir, have made my day.

Telephonething, Saturday, 12 March 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)

...that Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds rarities set is also quite tempting, and sort of fits the theme of this thread in that it's all old material (predating Blixa's departure, at least).

Telephonething, Saturday, 12 March 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

i have no idea, did the Free Design albums come out this year?

still waiting for:
The Coup - Kill My Landlord

tremendoid (tremendoid), Saturday, 12 March 2005 05:23 (twenty years ago)

Th’ Faith Healers:
Some of you may recall a British band from the nineties on Too Pure called Th’ Faith Healers, whose three albums – L’, Lido and Imaginary Friend – get mandatory regular rotation here at HQ. A quick lifespan kept them from reaching the heights of labelmates PJ Harvey and Stereolab, but rest assured they were just as innovative, talented and overall incredible. In a move of achieving boyhood dreams that ranks right up there with getting a high-five from Mr. T, Ba Da Bing! is proud to announce that it will be releasing a CD of Th’ Faith Healers Peel Sessions in 2005. They did five sessions total, the first of which came out on Strange Fruit in 1991 on an album entitled Too Pure – The Peel Sessions. This new album will compile the other four, which included unreleased songs that were to appear on their never-recorded fourth album. Continuing the exciting news, Roxanne Stephen, TFH singer, and Tom Cullinan, who after disbanding the group went on to form Quickspace, have been collaborating again on new material. We hear will update you on any developments as far as that goes. There’s a rundown of the band’s life here.

Yummy Fur:
As if we weren’t excited enough to be involved with just one of the greatest bands of the nineties… You may not be familiar with Yummy Fur, as they never received a proper domestic release of their records, but they were a Glasgow band whose skittish, danceable songs drew on The Fall, The Fire Engines and their own unique off-kilter approach to become one of the most revered and respected Scottish bands of the nineties. Ba Da Bing! will be reissuing Yummy Fur material in Spring 2005. Expect their albums – Night Club and Sexy World – and the EP, Male Shadow At 3 O’Clock in new packaging with liner notes and the band’s singles added on as bonus tracks. Currently, John McKeown is playing in a new group, Mars Hotel, while drummer Paul Thompson and for-a-short-time bass player Alex Kapranos are tirelessly touring components of Franz Ferdinand.

A Guy Called Gerald (Black Secret Technology, 28 Gun Bad Boy AND apparently a comp of singles!!!) soon soon soon.

I've always wanted that Just Ice album too.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 12 March 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

I gotta find that Just-Ice disc, too.

Sonny Sharrock's Dance With Me Montana was just reissued on some French label; the only place I know that has it is Downtown Music Gallery.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Saturday, 12 March 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

Apparently we aren't the only ones PDF! People are bidding up to $50!?!?! on eBay for a reissue which lists at $12.99!

two weeks pass...
Gang Of Four's Entertainment! is getting reissued (released on May 17th) with extra tracks from the Yellow EP and four other unreleased songs.

Among the new additions, perhaps of most interest are alternate versions of album tracks "Contract" and "Guns Before Butter" and live versions of the unrecorded "Blood Free" and a cover of the Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane."

Originally released in 1980, the "Yellow" EP is highlighted by the angry, brittle "Outside the Trains Don't Run on Time" and "He'd Send in the Army." The release also features the songs "It's Her Factory" and "Armalite Rifle."

buck van smack (Buck Van Smack), Thursday, 31 March 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

grrr. The current version has everything off the Yellow EP except for "Armalite Rifle". Am I stupid enough to buy this again??

'haitch' (haitch), Thursday, 31 March 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

the first two Wha Ha Ha albums have just come out again. they're at Forced Exposure.

now we just need the Haniwa All Stars albums (& live video reissued on DVD) and we're set

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 31 March 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

Man, I know I'm going to end up buying 'Entertainment!' yet again, for those unreleased tracks. Grr.

I.M. (I.M.), Thursday, 31 March 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

armalite rifles a great track. blow your head off.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 31 March 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

I have to buy Entertainment! again anyway. My old CD player burned holes into about two-dozen albums of mine and on Entertainment it impacted "Anthrax". At least I didn't spend too much on the reissue...it's always in stock at Vinyl Fever for a cheaper price than most places. My former Brooklynite love couldn't find a copy for less than $20 up there and I bought it for her for $13. Solid Gold is always in stock, too, and I enjoy that one more since it's not as tame and darker.

What we want? Sex with T.V. stars! What you want? Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Ma, Thursday, 31 March 2005 02:56 (twenty years ago)

GARRY HIGGINS "Red Hash"
(Coming in July on Drag City -- awesome psych-folk LP from Connecticut 1973 -- dude's sole LP. He did just shy of three years for selling weed after it was released, so I'm guessing it'll be the High Times' record of the month. Fun release date-related NYC shows int he works, too. I posted a song and more about it on my blog, FYI.)
