a kind of simon reynoldsian thread, i guess, 'cos that's where i remember reading the term 'audio logo'. you'll know what i mean after i list my faves:

1. the just blaze "just blaze!" plus ascending synth.
2. the mystikal "eee-eurk" curious door creak sound.
3. the d-double e "mui" (moo-ey? myuieae?)
4. uhm... there are others?

I have no idea what you're talking about but my first thought was Raymond Scott.

4. Jadakiss' Seles-esque "ah-HEH" hack wheeze cough

like, not just production tendencies and vocal tics but sounds, noises or phrases that ppl deploy to let you know who's behind the track/mic/decks/laptop.

xpost - see, Dave's got it.

Ying Yang Twins - "hanh!" (which they use a whole song to explain!) and the falsetto ascending "oooo"

Jacques Lu Cont remixes - the four bar 1/8th note played bassline

Vybz Kartel - "Up to the time"/"Timeless"

Basement Jaxx - the reverbed crash and "Basement Jaxx" that starts off each album (but it's a different one each time!)

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

9. Missy's "This is a SO-AND-SO one-time production exclusive etc." when it's NOT HER TRACK (cf. Ciara's "1, 2 Step".

10. The mighty cartoonish "YIP! / YAHOO! / HOO-HOO-WHEE!" of Scott Miller (Game Theory / Loud Family)

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

in the corporate sense....I love the THX surround sound "jzzzzzooooooM!"

also, the kind of synth xylophone "DUN DUN" that precedes every section of an episode of Law & Order

First thing that came to mind when i read the thread title was that Basement Jaxx thing, it's great. I really look forward to the next BJ album, not so much for the album itself, as for the chance of getting to hear a fourth variation of that intro.

Kornél Kovács (Kornél Kovács), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 01:30 (twenty years ago)

Cornelius' penchant for lapping waves, space sounds, Atari blips, delayed sine waves, panned guitar licks (and panning in general), percussive sweeps, noize tendencies and a massive tech-orchestral hit have always stayed with me.

BARMS, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

DMX's "what!"

Also Manic Street Preachers seem to use this one chord change on like half of their songs.
