Record collection insurance (UK)

Sorry, this is phenomenally boring question prompted by the 'What would you do if your CDs were nicked' thread.

I live in rented accomodation in the UK. I share my flat with a friend and keep my stereo and CDs in the sitting room.

It appears that no one will insure me. I suppose I have about 500 CD albums in there. I used to have Endsleigh graduate insurance, listing the CD collection as a seperately insured item (CDs were excluded from general contents over some paltry figure like 200 pounds). But that had a maximum of 1500 pounds and it was only supposed to insure things kept in your own bedroom. Useless.

Anyone have any advice?

Nick, Direct Line should do it without specifying where you keep them. I have 5 grand of CD insurance with them. They attached it to a Home and contents policy as a separate item for less than an extra quid a month.

i think endsleigh will cover an entire house for contents up to £25000, you could maybe share that with the other bloke, can't remember how pricy the policy is though

i've got the endsleigh contents insurance for my room only (in a shared house), this is £5000, of which only 30% can be used on cds and records. not exactly ideal

Obviously I'm all for a cheap laugh at the expense of my girlfriend, but I feel I should say something. Just to clear things up, yes, she is a man. Well disguised though. Oh, and I stole BDB. You can have it back. This is quite the dullest thread I've ever seen, well done Nick.

six months pass...

I am afraid I haven't got an answer, but I have a similiar problem with my CD and vinyl collection, if that is any consolation. I don't think it matters if you live in shared accomodation or not, it appears that unless they are "rare collector's pieces" e.g. antiques and insured & valued seperately... no chance!! Any financial service entrepreneurs out there ??

I know your pain!! i have around £25000 of vinyl in my house and i cant insure it all. Any ideas let me know. cheers adam.

Hrmph, I just tried to get a quote from Direct Line and they basically told me to sod off, on the basis that the value of my records/cds is about as much as all the rest of my stuff put together.
