has some sort of memo been passed around the british music press and broadsheets that says you must love and adore and praise rufus wainwright til kingdom come?

because up until a few months ago, no one seemed to give a shit about him, but now hes all over the place, being quote not only in music articles, but in everything from articles about kinsey to features on nuts magazine and the death of intelligence in the mass media. whoever is doing his PR must be raking it in.

people have just woken up to the brilliance of want one! its also down to the fact that he's had two major label albums released only 18 months apart. but yeah total saturation point approaching. it'll annoy the heck out of me if it all means i can't get good seats for the tour like last time. his '98 GAP ad has pretty much been forgotten i note.

It's part of the Gay Agenda, resistance is futile, but fabulous.

Maybe now that he's not as strung out, he's more presentable...

Blame Ned.

He realized my hate would destroy him in this country so he took his little song and dance elsewhere. Have I ever mentioned how I amused I was when I heard Want One and thought, "He sounds like Thom Yorke singing with an orchestra and being crap."

I don't think Ned was joking :(

i think hes overrated, brilliant voice, great taste, good lyrics, sweeping epic ambition and intelligence, just not as great songs.

Seems odd hes getting the media attention now when hes releasing arguably his least commercial album. The songs on Poses (California, Cigarettes & Chocolate Milk in particular) are much more accessible than the likes of Agnus Dei or Old Whores Diet.

Still, all this excitement is long, long overdue.

I really love "Want One" in the same way that I love "Hunky Dory" and "For Your Pleasure", but "Want Two" is a total dud.
