Some people rate the Akufen and Bugz In The Attic discs.

Honorary Banana Slug (nordicskilla), Friday, 11 March 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

akufen, definitely.

rajeev (rajeev), Friday, 11 March 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

john digweed - fabric 20.

Martin Turenne, Friday, 11 March 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

#19 & #20 are certianly nothing to sneeze at.

Flash (cowboytrance), Friday, 11 March 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

the Bugz one for sure.

cs appleby (cs appleby), Friday, 11 March 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

The Akufen one is fab

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 11 March 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Afuken or Doc Martin

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 11 March 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

the Jacques Lu Cont one is really good.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 11 March 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

just got the new DJ Heather one but have yet to listen. afuken's my fave so far.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Friday, 11 March 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

the craig ricards fabric 01 mix is something special.

colin nagy, Sunday, 13 March 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

Digweed is quite nice. The Andy C vs DJ Hype is nigh-on impeccable drum n bass. Radioactive Man is awesome. If you want hip hop you can't go wrong with the DJ Spinbad comp. John Peel's is wonderful too.

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 13 March 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Just noticed that the Freestylers have one as well. Dunno if it's any good.

best fabric discs:

fabric 06 - tyler stadius - tribal house dropped into the echo chamber. exactly 1/3rd of the way between blake baxter, basic channel's main street discs and lcd soundsystem's "beat connection"

fabriclive 09 - jacques lu cont - seamlessly flows from gorgeous royksopp-isms to high-energy electro-acid-house. some random 80s stuff thrown in the mix, and at the end it veers into straight postpunky rock.

fabriclive 11 - bent - these guys are the good-natured goofy flipside of holland's bunker crew. they also live in the interzone between smurfy electro, italo disco and twisted house but the vibe is more carebears than cobra commander.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 14 March 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

Mayer and JLC, easily. I know this doesn't do you much good though, so the John Peel one is fun.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 14 March 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

I like the Bent one a lot, yeah. It's kinda like a more poppy Chicken Lips mix.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 14 March 2005 03:36 (twenty years ago)

Bent combines 'Radio Jolly' with 'The Greatest Hit', so it scores some points. The Radioactive Man disc seems to have a few fans.

BARMS, Monday, 14 March 2005 10:27 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for all the suggestions. Went with Akufen, it's good.

James Jung, Monday, 14 March 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

four months pass...
has the villalobos fabric mix been scrapped?

the fabric website no longer lists it as upcoming

manuel (manuel), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 07:13 (twenty years ago)

i was at fabric on saturday and they had posters up advertising the smagghe mix which had a byline at the bottom about forthcoming mixes. the villalobos was mentioned as one of the forthcoming ones but i suppose the posters could have been printed a while ago.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 07:24 (twenty years ago)

Akufen and Radioactive Man are decent. The ones I really love are Weatherall, Mayer and Smagghe (esp that bit with the Booka Shade acapella mixed into 'Heiden'.)

Omar (Omar), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 07:32 (twenty years ago)

poor ricardo! LOST IN THE K HOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEE

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 08:37 (twenty years ago)

on the fabric website they're changed the November mix from ricardo to Carl Craig.

Barnaby (Barnaby), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 09:08 (twenty years ago)

yeah it's been cancelled.

a, Tuesday, 19 July 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 19 July 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

he really better get his fuckin mind right

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 19 July 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

i'm bummed too. but carl craig? sweet! (does anyone remember his 2cd mix on react called the workout that came out a couple of years ago? they have it at my local virgin for $5 which is a steal)

tricky (disco stu), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 11:01 (twenty years ago)

um. grab that and put it up on ebay for you buy it at $24.99. we'll split the $20 profit (50% for yr business advisor).

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

Remember? Shjeet, I still play those mixes a lot...still, can't say i'm really psyched by the idea of another Craig mixcd (instead of an album in his Just Another Day mode.)

Omar (Omar), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 11:06 (twenty years ago)

what??? it's big on ebay? we sold about 20 copies at work for 12 euro each or something, a special offer, I think because React shut down or became another company.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

try finding a copy of "suck my deck pt 1". react went into bankruptcy because of some sort of shady funding deal that fucked the owner over - he's started a new company called resist but all of the old react stuff is now OOP.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

hah vahid, considering that i don't currently have a job, i might just do that. there's one copy of it up on ebay right now from a uk seller.

that's true about yet another cc mix, but i'm still curious as to what he'll pick for fabric. i haven't heard him play out in a long time. (not that that means much for an at home listening cd, but still)

tricky (disco stu), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

Mmm, one of those local megastore's had a bunch of Workouts lying around for 6-7 euro recently...almost bought some as standard birthday presents.

Omar (Omar), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

yeah we got all the React comps at a really good price, lots of them too, Nag Nag Nag, DJ Hell's EBM thing, Dave Clarke World Service etc etc etc.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)
