I just ordered this title for the Univeristy Library I work at. Should I be anxious for its arrival?

I guess no one has read this?

There are too many books called "Rip It Up", frankly.

If they give props to Little Richard it may be worth a look-see.

It's good.Lots of content, but not ponderous. I'm reading it now. Andy Gill interviews Little Richard; Bill Millar catches The Ike And Tina Turner Review in London; Barney Hoskyns chronicles (and critiques) the life and work of Arthur Lee; other overviews: Michael C. Ladd on P-Funk, Jon Caramancia on the "rap-rock poetics" of Pharrell Williams, Mos Def, and Andre 3000; Amy Linden's essay on Me'Shell NdegeCello; original interviews with Vernon Reid and Slash (also lesser-knowns like Venetta Fields, Betty Davis, and even Lester Bangs' "White Noise Supremacists")

I don't remember a hell of a lot but I know I enjoyed it.

Lester Bangs' "White Noise Supremacists"

That's a great piece - sadly, still totally relevant.

So are we to expect that this addresses the age-old ILM query "why does black people never want to rock"?

deej., Saturday, 12 March 2005 08:49 (twenty years ago)

Is this book about Zeke Manyika?

:-( I think Uncut (or Mojo) has a special on Scritti P written by SR. Still looking forward to the book.
