A part of me wishes New Order would start encoring with "Guilt is a Useless Emotion" instead of "Blue Monday"

Am I crazy?

I think they should just have "Blue Monday" playing when they're walking on stage (as the song was first intended), thereby getting it out of the way.

This all so... well, you know... OTM. I've almost grown to hate (the U.S. version) of Power, Corruption & Lies because of goddamn Blue Monday. It's pretty much the same damn song as "The Ocean" and it ruisn the flow of the album! argh. I might buy a record player JUST to buy an original pressing or something haha (and hopefully it won't sound as weak and tinny).

lets get an online petition together!

charleston charge (chaki), Saturday, 12 March 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

C'mon Chaki, how does it feel to treat them like you do?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 March 2005 02:22 (twenty years ago)

When you lay your hands upon them?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

They should encore with "Atmosphere" - the Russ Abbot one, not the Joy Division one.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Nah, they should do "All Life Holiday"

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:09 (twenty years ago)

Ah no, that was "All Night Holiday" with its not-at-all desperate chorus tag line of "Everybody COME ON DOWN!" (The Price Is Right being the biggest show on TV at the time).

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

You are right, once again.

I always thought "All Life Holiday" was close to how the Manics would have written it, anyway.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

I would quite like to hear the Manics covering "A Day In The Life Of Vince Prince."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

, and stop rewriting "Songs of joy and tears of laughter"...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

(My sister was dressing Russ last week)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

Does she work in a nursing home or something then?

My mate was recently tending to someone out of W******e A**!

NickB (NickB), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, Blue Monday. Carry on...

NickB (NickB), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:30 (twenty years ago)

(umm, no, the Th3atre Royal at Windsor, act..)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

they should go back to not doing fucking encores.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 14 March 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

fiendish OTM. It's always Blue fecking Monday (though, to be fair, at Finsbury Park they did exhume Digital as well).

Si Carter (Si Carter), Monday, 14 March 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

fiendish OTM. It's always Blue fecking Monday

But (at least according to Tony Wilson novelisation of '24 Hour Party People, so it could be bullshit) that's the only reason they wrote Blue Monday, so they could fuck off without having to do a proper encore.

Interview w Barney:

Do you think music was more innovative back in 1978, when you first started?

All the time I've been making music, I've wanted to break new ground. The aim behind Blue Monday was to do something people hadn't heard before, and I think we managed that. We also wrote it because we hated doing encores - they're so predictable, yet it's supposed to be a spontaneous thing. The idea was that I'd come back on stage, press the play button, let all the sequencers and computers play Blue Monday as an encore, and fuck off.

robertonm, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)

At Finsbury Park they encored with Digital, BM, World In Motion and Your Silent Face.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 09:15 (twenty years ago)

the correct answer is: the epic 20min medley of 5.8.6-Temptation-Everythings Gone Green as heard on several bootlegs from the early 80's.
