okay so apparently I am an uncritical fanboy because "Steppin Up" is fucking hot despite being a gigantic disorganized mess of a song
― HI DERE, Monday, 21 June 2010 18:47 (fifteen years ago)
i'm just going to reply here because even though i haven't listened to the new songs yet, thank FUCK someone bumped the correct artist thread

I'll be honest, I was thinking explicitly of you when I tracked this thread down

What's with the dancing punkish idiot behind her?
― Moka, Wednesday, 30 June 2010 06:02 (fifteen years ago)
Grew on me too. Far more impressive in the context of the album than with the video to distract from it.
― Haunted Clocks For Sale (Dorianlynskey), Wednesday, 30 June 2010 09:40 (fifteen years ago)
agreed. the context helped it quite a bit. i think the only song from the new album that i dislike is "teqkilla."
― borntohula, Thursday, 1 July 2010 05:16 (fifteen years ago)
Haven't heard the album yet but something similar happened to me with "Bird Flu"; it barely made sense to me as a lead single but totally killed on the album.
― based on logical thinking (HI DERE), Thursday, 1 July 2010 11:46 (fifteen years ago)
Naming the album /\/\/\Y/\ was a good idea, it's very difficult to search for "/\/\/\Y/\" on the interwebs.
― Beach Pomade (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 1 July 2010 15:45 (fifteen years ago)
I think search engines tend not to like the slashes.
xxxo is even worse than born free

nah i've liked some of her stuff, but those two are terrible

it's cuz she don't want no c.i.a. trackin her down n shit by searching 4 her album w/ google and other secret c.i.a. technology
haven't heard the album yet. i heard good and bad things about it. the bad came from some guy who read the hirschberg article and got instantly turned off to her for good despite years of fandom: he said "this is an awful album but everyone's going to love it because she did it." i will reserve my judgment for when i hear it -- so far i have only heard "born free" and "xxxo" which are solid good songs but not great.
― teledyldonix, Thursday, 1 July 2010 20:01 (fifteen years ago)
someone said on the other thread that 'xxxo' is her version of a lady gaga song, but to my ears it sounds a lot more like something off of Loose...
― is this the end of zombie Shakespeare? (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 1 July 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)
weren't pp; all like "oh, she's copping mia moves" when loose came out?

streaming the album on Myspace now
"The Message" is rad-sounding and I already liked "Steppin Up"
― MOATY I'M HERE (HI DERE), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:04 (fifteen years ago)
okay you crazy ppl "Teqkilla" is fucking rad
― MOATY I'M HERE (HI DERE), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:07 (fifteen years ago)
okay bad sign; I'm only really digging the tracks that were released as singles
the others might grow on me tho
― MOATY I'M HERE (HI DERE), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:30 (fifteen years ago)
lol I spoke too soon, "Meds and Feds" is fucking great
― MOATY I'M HERE (HI DERE), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:31 (fifteen years ago)
lol @ me stubbornly posting on this thread while all the discussion is happening on the other one
― MOATY I'M HERE (HI DERE), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:42 (fifteen years ago)
eh, but pretty much no one is discussing the album on the other thread...just the p4k review
― exit through the (Tape Store), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:44 (fifteen years ago)
i think the new record is great--maybe not quite as startling as the previous two, but so what. don't really hear any "hits" tho. then again, i didn't hear any on Kala either, initially. love the cheap new/old sounds production gimmick.
― deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:53 (fifteen years ago)
um I think "Teqkilla" is pretty startling!
― MOATY I'M HERE (HI DERE), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:54 (fifteen years ago)
i meant the album as a whole; individual tracks are still pretty out there.
― deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)
VICKY LEEKX] or so i've been told (in humble deference to the lex)
i've enjoyed vicky leakx. as others have said in, um, some other thread, it suggests a retrenchment or reestablishment of her core sound, perhaps in response to negative reactions (and poor sales). i've always liked MIA-sounding maya, so i'm cool with that. also seems sketchy, experimentally defaced, and i can't honestly say that anything jumps out as an obvious, "paper planes" challenging single. maybe "let me hump you" & "bad girls"? despite that lack, i like basically every fragment on here. be interesting to see what survives to the next album, and in what form...
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 13:11 (fourteen years ago)
it actually is called "vicki" not what i said with a Y, but i don't feel too bad because obfuscation is clearly thematic yes

take it to the MIA thread
