Pretend you have a label specialising in reissues. What would you release?

I honestly looked to see if there was a thread about this and was surprised not to find any. Now forget all the hassles of trying to obtain a band's catalogue and post!

I'd personally release Moloko's most recent three albums and the various singles Stateside fo the first time (they deserve to be massive here). I figure I could secure enough funds from that to issue other records, too. I'd definitely issue the following (and this is Stateside, mind you...things that I know aren't in print here, so don't get onto me!):

This Heat
Charalambides records and their various side projects (the ones on rare CD-Rs and C90's)
Diagram Brothers (which inspired this thread)
The Pop Group (no more expensive Japanese imports! "3:38" finally on CD!)
The Liquid Liquid compilation (replete with Dig We Must single and Liquid Idiot tracks)
Girls At Our Best! - Pleasure
Look Blue Go Purple - Compilation (and whatever live tracks I could find)
The final three Lizzy Mercier Descloux albums and related tracks
The Au Pairs - Playing With a Different Sex
A single-disc compilation containing "EPs" of Scritti Politti's first Peel Session (which is still unreleased despite Early), The Comsat Angels - Red Planet, Vivien Goldman's Dirty Washing, and Spunky Onions Meets the Ghettoberries
Everything else by The Comsat Angels that's not in print
Things I personally have recorded
Disco Inferno - The Five EPs
Dif Juz - Who Says So?, Time Clock Turn Back, and their unreleased collaboration with Lee "Scratch" Perry
Everything Associates related
Flipper galore
Happy Mondays' first two albums and the singles and EPs surrounding
Everything by Kitchens of Distinction!
Slowdive - Pygmalion (with all the demos and outtakes and whatnot) and whatever else hasn't been released (Live in Oslo and who knows what else)
Rosewater Elizabeth - Faint, Le Petit Morte (both with bonus tracks if they have any lying around)
Miss July's (defunct local band) two albums and whatever else they didn't issue
Modern Eon - Fiction Tales (and whatever else I can compile)
Everything OOP Stateside by A Certain Ratio and The Durutti Column
An compilation of the recordings of Fk9
The Sugarhill Gang - 8th Wonder
The first two Flying Lizards albums
Return of the Giant Slits
Everything by The Wolfgang Press
John Cale - Music for a New Society
Everything that's fallen OOP from On-U-Sound
The goodies on the Silence label!
The first two albums by The Wrens

...And I'm not sure what else I can come up with at the moment.

i'd definitely want to reissue all of the feelies albums--plus various side projects (yung wu, trypes) and any unreleased/live material there might be floating around out there.

also think that dreamtime by tom verlaine needs to be reissued. somebody already did it in the mid-nineties, but it appears to be way out of print at the moment.

I'll second the Cop Shoot Cop and Moloko, and raise you Skeleton Key's "Fantastic Spikes Through Balloon" w/the remix disc.

Also, does anyone know whether Enon "Believo!" has been reissued yet? I was talking to them at the show here 6 months ago, and they weren't sure what was happening with it yet. Supplies were running low...

Oh yeah, all the Idiot Flesh stuff too.

John Justen (johnjusten), Sunday, 13 March 2005 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, if we're including DVD's, I'd throw The Residents "Icky Flix" in there as well.

Supposedly The Feelies are trying to sort out a way to reissue their albums themselves.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Sunday, 13 March 2005 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Most of "Wanna Buy A Bridge" has been reissued haphazardly on various compilations, although it would be good to see it in print again, along with a domestic version of No NY.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 13 March 2005 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Hex - Bark Psychosis

Steve Gertz (sgertz), Monday, 14 March 2005 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I've said it before here, but there is just no reason on earth for Sister Sledge's "Love Somebody Today", featuring the Chic guys, to be available only on vinyl. NO REASON. Plus they all look really hot on the back sleeve in this sortof pastel silky material...

I'm gonna add the A Certain Ratio comp. "The Old & The New" as something else that seriously needs a reissue very badly.

And all those early Comsat Angles albums that I read horror stories about people not being able to find now. But perhaps I'm misinformed and that condition has changed.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Monday, 14 March 2005 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

secret shine was just reissued by claire records. although i am not sure what st is? only the single 'after years' was not on the reissue.

keith m (keithmcl), Monday, 14 March 2005 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Duh.. the album I was talking about is Untouched. I was thinking that it was "self-titled" for a minute b/c there's no title on the sleeve face. Anyway, it's great to know that it has been reissued after all. Claire must have released it recently b/c I was looking for it a few years ago - to no avail. I have an old vinyl copy, but It'd be nice to get on CD. Great record.

Steve Gertz (sgertz), Monday, 14 March 2005 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah the reissue has untouched, greater than god and the two other sarah singles. no dreamscape.

keith m (keithmcl), Monday, 14 March 2005 05:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Interesting thread, Ian. I'd buy from your label.

Bobb Trimble's Jupiter Transmissions collection (CD now op)

good call--absolutely beautiful music. (Anyone who has not heard it: hello.)

I'd reissue all of Kevin Coyne's catalog that's out-of-print, first and foremost. One of my favorite musicians, and I'd like to legitimately own the incredible, incredible things I've downloaded. Rest of the world needs more Coyne in their lives anyway.

babyalive (babyalive), Monday, 14 March 2005 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

The Altern-8 album. The early Reinforced stuff. Breaking Atoms (unless this finally did get reissued--what is the hold up on this anyway?) Early SUAD and Ragga Twins and Rum & Black albums and comps, also a collection of the varies Red Light label stuff. The Avex Japan Congo Natty and Kemet Crew collections.

four weeks pass...
Bimble, you can only obtain those early albums through It's History if you don't want to spend $40 on each of them. I definitely recommend it, even if the case it comes in is rather meh...and the complete lyrics are included, too, so you can sing along!
