So there's this song I keep hearing on like teh modern urban hitz! stations which I'm guessing is called Caught Up cuz dude is all CAUGHT UP...CAUGHT UP...and he don't know what it is etc., and it is fucking WICKED, and I never get to hear who it is! It almost sounds like Usher, but doesn't.

I'm so...CAUGHT UP...CAUGHT UP...

AND I DON'T KNOW WHO IT IS!!!!

It's all so super minimal, but then it's got these wild horn stabby bits, and like this super low sub-bass shit and...uh...yeah I likes it.

|\|ickalicious, Saturday, 12 March 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Please tell me it's not really Usher, and all this time I've been just assuming it was some lesser Almost Usher! Or do tell me, whatever!

|\|ickalicious, Saturday, 12 March 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

no, it's not usher.

really.

it is not usher.

nathalie barefoot in the head (stevie nixed), Saturday, 12 March 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

at first I read this as "modern hits" and thought, oh so this isn't about usher.

but it is.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 12 March 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

haha. 'tis Usher.

a yousendit of this song would be much appreciated btw.

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 12 March 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

it's the artist formerly known as crusher@tmail.com

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 12 March 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

Ja Rule's current single is also called "Caught Up" and has Lloyd singing on the chorus but it sounds like you're describing the Usher song.

I was so sure
That it wouldnt happen to me
Cuz I know how to put it down
But I was so wrong
This girl was mean
She really turned me out
Her body was so tight
I'm lookin' for her in the daytime with a flashlight

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 13 March 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

It's a song best appreciated in a club environement, as handled by an able DJ. Or so has been my experience.

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 13 March 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

sway dasafo's done an amazing version of this on his mixtape

Chris Houghton (chrish), Sunday, 13 March 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

Is this "Caught Up" by Metro Area?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 13 March 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

That would have been funny

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 13 March 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

can we talk about the sub-Moonwalker awfulness of Rhythm City, Vol. 1?

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 13 March 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

OMG, I am watching Rhythm City Vol 1 right now on the TV and just came to see if it had been discussed before!

"Caught Up" is pretty great.

When I hear this song I can't help but imagine that Usher has read the ILM thread re: Usher - C/D in which basically everyone states that his voice is not really up to par/showy enough and is straining to prove it wrong.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 13 March 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

Just to clarify, I think it is awesome and his best vocal performance maybe ever.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 13 March 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Could someone explain to me, as a non-native speaker of the English language, what the phrase "it seems she's got me twisted" means?

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 13 March 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

either than he's "caught up"/"messed up"/"all mixed up" or that she fucked him so vigorously his dick resembles a croissant

His best performance is "Burn"!!! He just moans a lot on this. "Burn" has nuance!

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 13 March 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

"burn" is nowhere near usher's best performance

j blount (papa la bas), Sunday, 13 March 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

nuance is for lace doilies and knitting bees

j blount (papa la bas), Sunday, 13 March 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Anthony I get the feeling there'd be very little crossover between my Usher POX and yours.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 13 March 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

well I only know the singles. I'm dying to hear those five songs you said would be better fifth singles than "Caught Up." Well, I'm not dying cuz I haven't paid full price for the album yet. But if I saw it used somewhere I'd grab it immediately. I may even pay full price once they stop playing all these tracks on the radio 24/7.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 13 March 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

I'm kinda pissed nobody in town has sold back Meteora, Confessions: Special Edition or Songs About Jane. You'd think SOMEBODY would be disappointed.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 13 March 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

there's this thing called the internet, it's changing music

j blount (papa la bas), Sunday, 13 March 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

i can't figure out soulseek. i'm lazy and got rid of it. Plus I want to support my local record stores (if not necessarily multiplatinum artists). We're buds.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 13 March 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

I watch (or just listen, depending) to these guys videos on Launch all the time, though. So hooray for the net.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 13 March 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

well I probably only know just enough Confessions album tracks to have been able to make that list, I haven't really heard the whole thing proper either. and probably only 2 or 3 of them really bury "Caught Up", which is just one of those songs that sounded nice the first couple times then got tiresome fast.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 13 March 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

four weeks pass...
the video is great!

has anyone ever seen usher in concert? When he was here in st louis he did this bit where he did all these lou dances, like, you do it like this in st louis right? the crowd really dug it but ever since then I wonder how he knew those dances, like is there a secret undercover usher dance investigation crew that stakes out clubs in advance on the tour?
