From where?!? Just wondering... I have a friend who was really excited to see them in Miami.

i am nervous (cochere), Sunday, 13 March 2005 08:54 (twenty years ago)

told you so.

mia is shit., Sunday, 13 March 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

Matos told me about this at the Slint show tonight. (Slint were pretty damned good, btw.)

M.I.A. is obv being closely watched by the FBI, as she is a threat to America's national security .

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Sunday, 13 March 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

CANCELED? i saw that ticketweb wasn't offering tickets for the seattle date and had just assumed it sold out, and i was planning on camping outside the chopsuey all day on tuesday to try and find a ticket.

Oh well. saves me some trouble. ::cries::

Kevin Erickson, Sunday, 13 March 2005 09:29 (twenty years ago)

Jesus, this is turning into a comedy.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Sunday, 13 March 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh, hush Rickey. I was excited. I haven't seen a live show with choreographed dance moves since D.C. Talk in sixth grade.

Kevin Erickson, Sunday, 13 March 2005 10:00 (twenty years ago)

Nooo, Kevin. I didn't mean you. I was excited about this, too. It just seems that between this and the delay in the release date, it's getting silly.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Sunday, 13 March 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

This M.I.A. gal has a prophetic moniker.

peepee (peepee), Sunday, 13 March 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

the dates were cancelled awhile back, around the time the release date was held up. i'm sure there's no connection.

j blount (papa la bas), Sunday, 13 March 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Well, with her album out on Interscope, what the fuck would she be doing playing three nights of SXSW anyway?!

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Sunday, 13 March 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Are you guys sure? The Independent SF website lists it as being sold out, but says nothing about it being cancelled.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Sunday, 13 March 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

The seattle show is definitely canceled.

according to the promoter

Kevin Erickson, Sunday, 13 March 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

guaranteed she got a plum opening slot for someone. but who..?

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 13 March 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Her album's still on XL isn't it? Future albums are on interscope.

deej., Sunday, 13 March 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

weird -- street posters went up for the SF show just last week!

heywood jablomi (heywood), Sunday, 13 March 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

Arular's coming out on Interscope (in the US, don't know about elsewhere).

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 13 March 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

It's coming out on XL with distribution through Fontana (an arm of Universal, as is Interscope).

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 14 March 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

RE: Seattle show. Okay, the Thrasher Presents website says cancelled but Chop Suey and the weekly and the stranger don't. whatup? am i getting my hopes up over nothing?

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

sf independent website still lists show as sold out and happening...

heywood jablomi (heywood), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

what i got from XL ppl is that she's awaiting a proper work visa but with so many bands applying for them for SXSW, hers is stuck in the queue. she's only cancelling shows that she knows she can't make, (hence, just seattle and SF right now) and is desperately holding out hope for SXSW. resched is planned once the visa is set.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

Atlanta show is cancelled too :o(

Jena (JenaP), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

so yeah, they're slowly gonna drop them as they see fit.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

they are cancelled, this is made very clear on the beggar's banquet site.
