This thread is relevant, but how about a definitive list of bands with whom you know you won't be pissing about waiting for yet another encore?

To start; bands I've never seen do an encore on multiple viewings:

Wedding Present
Manic Street Preachers

New Order don't enjoy doing them, as I understand it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 13 March 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

Belle & Sebastian never used to. I'm not sure if that's changed.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 13 March 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

The Strokes

B&S do encores now.

The thing with bands who don't do encores is that they will actually do them if the crowd are going completely mental, but they don't do the kind of formulaic encores beloved of most bands.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 13 March 2005 20:14 (twenty years ago)

I saw The Strokes do an encore last year.

Explosions In The Sky don't do em.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Sunday, 13 March 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

I saw The Strokes do an encore last year.

...Because they finally had written enough songs to do one.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Sunday, 13 March 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

Evan Dando won't do one unless everyone is singing along to his songs during the set.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 13 March 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

clinic - at least not up until the winchester cathedral tour

blackmail.is.my.life (blackmail.is.my.life), Sunday, 13 March 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

The Riverboat Gamblers.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Sunday, 13 March 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure the Super Furry Animals don't do them.

Dot Dash, Sunday, 13 March 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

Tool won't do 'em.

encores C/D?

This is a distinct thread talking about people's opinions of bands doing encores in general, not a list of bands doing encores, per se.. but I thought the link would be interesting to some here.

(DOH! linked above.. sorry)

The thing with bands who don't do encores is that they will actually do them if the crowd are going completely mental, but they don't do the kind of formulaic encores beloved of most bands.

As far as I am aware the two bands I mentioned at the top have never done one. I've seen both bands repeatedly over their careers and not seen one yet. I stand to be contradicted, mind...

xx-post: you're right about the weds. gedge told the frankly fanatical crowd at glasgow qmu the other week: "we don't do encores".

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 13 March 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

I've seen the Super Furry Animals over 25 times now and they have never done an encore.

PB, Monday, 14 March 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

At Glastonbury, he did one! He told the audience to see him round the back, and he did "The beach be one of the best things that we got" behind a steel barrier, and a cartwheel!
