i'm curious what the aussies out there think, especially. the missing link between ac/dc and midnight oil? or between ian hunter and great white (who covered two of their songs, i think, or at least one)? or rose tattoo with a higher i.q. and less muscles? but better than that, probably. and they were clearly still making great albums as late as 1989 (beyond salvation, which i just paid for a dollar for a cassette of in a thrift store last month, and just listened to.) i can also personally vouch for live from angel city (1988 EP), greatest hits vol. II (1985), two-minute warning (1984), night attack (1982), dark room (1980), face to face (1980), and the angels (sometime in the mid to late '70s, i guess, and the greasers on the cover make me wonder if they started out with a teddy boy look -- or maybe they were australia's answer to eddie and the hot rods or the bishops or 101ers or somebody?) "marseille" was a very very small AOR hit in detroit in 1980, as I recall. (in other words, i think i heard it once or even twice on WWWW or WABX, about the exact same amount i heard the BAND marseille, who were also great, but i understandly confused both of them for a while.) I think my favorite song is "take a long line," but it has a shitload of competition. down under are they acknowledged as one of the greatest hard rock bands ever? they should be.

no chuck they're not. they seem to have slipped from popular consciousness all together (unlike, say, cold chisel...but maybe thats because barnsey is still out and about - and has became a more media friendly personality than doc evr managed)

my wife massaged doc sometime in the early 90's. he was complaining that he was an old guy yet the kkids still expected him to jump around.

And how do they compare, popularity-wise, with Skyhooks? The Skyhooks flopped mightily in the States, too. But I liked them, my favorite tune being "Mercedes Ladies."

see shirley went on to do a home handyman show on tv, red simons went on to be a sort of proto aussie idol critic, mccainsh did something too - they kind of kept in the publics eye. the angels were at best anonymous even when they were having hits.

i believe however the rallying cry "am i ever gonna see your face again (NO WAY GET FUCKED FUCK OFF)" has passed into aussie folklore.

Um, 'Do you know I go crazy' was my favourite single of last year but I think I'm on the wrong thread here...

('Love me right' and 'Touch me' are also ace for others like me who thought this thread was about the dance act)

ok i might be wrong/hang out in rarified circles or something. i just asked someone at work who i didn't expect to know of them and she stared at me like i was a moron, said "fucking legends, man" and did the NOWAYGETFUCKEDFUCKOFF with complimentary hand gestures.

Cool! But Rose Tattoo are still more famous (out in the outback and elsewhere) because of the "Neighbors" connection, right? (Just checking.)

You mean the song of theirs done on some Neighbours wedding? I dont know... I think the Tatts, Anderson in partic, is better known for his fundraising works and tv appearances isnt he?

Anderson delivered some talk on this in the Rose Tattoo anthology of a few years back, "Never Too Loud." However, not getting Australian TV, I've no personal clue.

i used to listen to dark room incessantly..in fact i think it was th record i had on when i locked my door, climbed out the window,re-entered the house and told my mother i had started a fire in my closet(which i hadn't)the sight of my poor brother prying off my door at my mothers request while i snickered nearby was very afterschool special..my mother promptly threw my turntable out of my window with the angel city lp spinning helplessly upon it..xdan
