I totally think Skeleton Key sounds like Jawbox and Regulator Watts!

But, yeah, sure, they're similar. (At least on Fantastic Spikes/.)

Hmmm....must listen to Jawbox again.

But, in any case, SKELETON KEY, `cos they farkin' rule.

total lack of jawbox love on here apparently. has anyone heard the remaster of for your own special sweetheart? i pulled it out yesterday and said to myself damn that is a record that could really use some remastering.

remaster sounds really good. love this record so much--but their best song is "static."

adam, Thursday, 3 December 2009 00:12 (fifteen years ago)

I dug out that Jawbox album (Special Sweetheart) recently and it's held up very well. I tried the next album but it didn't compare.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 3 December 2009 04:13 (fifteen years ago)

everytime this thread is bumped i'm disappointed that noone wants to talk about Skeleton Key

the 6 SBillion dollar man (some dude), Thursday, 3 December 2009 04:19 (fifteen years ago)

i miss skeleton key, and the live shows were great - they seem to be in some sort of permanent hiatus tho. also, that erik danko solo album was boooooring

bearinthebumpercaremoticon.jpg (jjjusten), Thursday, 3 December 2009 04:24 (fifteen years ago)

i only saw them in the later years with the different lineup and never got too into the later stuff even though it was similar, but man that first album is a killer.

the 6 SBillion dollar man (some dude), Thursday, 3 December 2009 04:26 (fifteen years ago)

i really dig obtanium. did you see them after the percussionist left to join sleepytime gorilla museum?

bearinthebumpercaremoticon.jpg (jjjusten), Thursday, 3 December 2009 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

was dreading what dan would have mod-subbed for sleepytime tbh

bearinthebumpercaremoticon.jpg (jjjusten), Thursday, 3 December 2009 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

NOT TO GIVE YOU ANY IDEAS DUDE

bearinthebumpercaremoticon.jpg (jjjusten), Thursday, 3 December 2009 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

i saw them around 01, not where that'd fall lineup-wise

the 6 SBillion dollar man (some dude), Thursday, 3 December 2009 04:32 (fifteen years ago)

i think that was with the original percussionist, who (at least whenever i saw them) was on the verge of injuring the band/crowd with a poorly mounted sawblade or rusty bit of scrap metal at all times

bearinthebumpercaremoticon.jpg (jjjusten), Thursday, 3 December 2009 04:48 (fifteen years ago)

nah afaik Rick Lee who was on the first album had left by like '98 or '99 and was in Enon by then, was a different guy at the show I saw

the 6 SBillion dollar man (some dude), Thursday, 3 December 2009 04:58 (fifteen years ago)

oh yeah, nevermind, the guy im talking about was matthias bossi, who was technically the drummer, not the percussionist, who is a different guy who also left the band.

did not realize the first dude ended up in enon! all these dudes (enon, skeleton key, SGM) basically had a rolling inadvertant residency at a dive bar turned music venue in MPLS/STPL called big v's, which was great back in the day but now suuuuuuuucks

also unlike what i said up there its sanko, not danko. duh.

bearinthebumpercaremoticon.jpg (jjjusten), Thursday, 3 December 2009 05:04 (fifteen years ago)

I love Enon, Skeleton Key & SGM...I had no idea there was so much loco incest between the three.

mascara and ties (Abbott), Thursday, 3 December 2009 05:08 (fifteen years ago)

the first time i saw SGM they played with skeleton key. IT WAS AWESOME

bearinthebumpercaremoticon.jpg (jjjusten), Thursday, 3 December 2009 05:10 (fifteen years ago)

Man, Skeleton Key played in Boise every single year, it seemed, until 2003 when I moved there.

mascara and ties (Abbott), Thursday, 3 December 2009 05:13 (fifteen years ago)

seriously that was about as happy as i've ever been watching a band get back together

Conservative HOT Mom! (govern yourself accordingly), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 07:02 (fifteen years ago)
