Inspired by this thread. Let's see: Luke Haines builds a whole album around (white) terrorist chic ("when you've decided / meet me at the airport", "we made the cops look dumb on the borderline", writes it off as a Situationist stunt, gets a full pass. M.I.A., well, you know the story.

Me, I'll take "You're going home in a fucking ambulance" over "Pull up the people / pull up the poor" any day. At least there's no righteousness to it, just pure teenage sadistic exhilaration.

do we really need ANOTHER luke haines thread?

Er, I was hoping this would be a thread about playful radical stances. But maybe we've had enough of those as well.

(it was a joke!)

Baader should be in the "coolest rock star look" thread.

"Like Luke Haines I don’t matter."

i'm sure i tried to bring this up *in* one of the arular threads. did haines go for a more ironic approach than MIA? possibly not: it is kind of outrageous that baader-meinhof are seen as 'cool' terrorists. baader was a bibble in reality, but they had a snappy logo and some hot chixxors on their side.

three years pass...

I think Haines' record is about the RAF, without being obviously for them. The last track suggests an awareness of their failure.

The first MIA album - much as I love it, the lyrics are a bit oblique to me. I think she is just going for kewl terrorist chic, but I could be wrong.
