medasyn, caspa codina. And Morane. And the weirder funkier brooks stuff. And Rework. Basically newer funkier stuff with really good production, slightly punky maybe but not sneering. Keep it dancey, keep it new. Keep in mind I am mostly familiar with the back catalogs of Perlon and Playhouse, though by all means if there was something you think came and went without much fanfare then by all means.

i don't have any suggestions but want similar stuff. can i borrow your thread? i want more booker shade type housy stuff like the ivan smagghe mix cd um, like that jesper dahlback remix of panash jack 2 jack. i really like redemption by adam beyer. more! more vocal cut ups and electro synths and lo fi. i have a trak id as well: electro-ish house tunre that has a sample saying something like "check this out", in fact i think it is a sample on fruityloops or something. as for perlon, i have superlongevity 3, what else do i need? sorry for rambling on your thread, you can delete my post if you want.

Lustmordtis - do a search on "electro-house", go to the list threads for '04 and '05 and download everything suggested - but for a specific suggestion check out all the stuff being released on the Systematic label, people like Marc Romboy and Abysm.

Firstworldman - I assume you've heard Captain Comatose?

What you need is the excellent Nonstop Vol. 1 compilation. It's cheap, too!

JoB (JoB), Monday, 14 March 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

Tell me about the people on that JoB.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 14 March 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

The label is owned by Olegavich and Nick Phillips AKA BoxSaga. The two of them have produced all the tracks on the comp (seperately). Caspa Codina = Olegavich (real name: Prokofiev - he's Sergei's grandson!). He has also produced Aristacrat. Phillips produced Edwin Laliq and is half of Liquide.

JoB (JoB), Monday, 14 March 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

That Nonstop comp caught my eye when googling this stuff out. I was trying to find somewhere in the US to buy it as overseas shipping has been ruining me lately. Plus I couldn't find anything indicating that it was available on vinyl. The only thing I have off of it is the Caspa Codina 12". I do have an Ed Laliq song on the In flagranti "Just Gazing" 12" which is pretty cool. Could anyone yousendit this or email me some tracks (this email addy works)? It would be greatly appreciated.

Also I should have added Mu and Maurice Fulton in general to my list.

BARMS, Monday, 14 March 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

got em : (

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 14 March 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

Caspa Codina = Olegavich (real name: Prokofiev - he's Sergei's grandson!)

!!!!! I assume you're talking about Gabriel Olegavich here? Wow.

(Gabriel also = Medasyn, Lady Sovereign's producer)

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 14 March 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

(and grime soloist/collaborator)

Dude, you into Kitsune? Get Physical? Eskimo?

BARMS, Monday, 14 March 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

wow, didn't know he was producing lady sovereign, but that makes sense!

Were you addressing me on Kitsune, Get Physical, Eskimo?

I love Kitsune and Get Physical... have never heard anything on Eskimo.

Hey, what's wrong with a little sneering? You don't like Billy idol or something? Do you like the Proptronix label's stuff? Try the new PJ Pooterhoots 12" "No Go", it's tight.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 14 March 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

It's not that there's anything wrong with sneering... I was just trying to avoid any recommendations for electroclash or Moving Units remixes or something... Then again, I guess that would be surprising here. All I've heard on Proptronix is some Pigeon Funk stuff, which I do indeed like. I shall check out PJ Pooterhoots if only to figure out how that name winds up here.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 14 March 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

pj pooterhoots winds up here perfectly.

stirmonster, Monday, 14 March 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Actually, regarding highly-produced pop: Drew, do you have any insider info as to when we can expect a new album from Safety Scissors? Parts Water seems ages ago and that Ping Pong 12" with Kit along with the amaaaazing Dntel remix really really whet my appetite and left me with no main course.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 14 March 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

I do have some insider info, of a sort, as I am doing a remix of one of the tunes on his album (and it's got Erlend singing the chorus-yay). It's a really great record, he mixed it with Luomo in Berlin, and it's quite pop, but very funky. It should be coming out around August/September-ish. I think you will dig it.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 14 March 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

so good to hear erlend is on there : ) and really pleased that luomo lent his ear.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 14 March 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

you want maurice fulton "... presents stress", his album as ladyvipb titled "stories of a broken heart and recovering" and his album as boof, titled "life is water for gerbadaisies when they are dancing".

ok they're not new but they're similar to spektrum and his style is years and years ahead of the pack anyway.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 14 March 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

really? hmm...i love those fulton records. maybe i should try some of this new stuff too.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

personally i tuned out when he started producing stuff as "mu", i have no idea why those records have taken off and the earlier ones are languishing in obscurity.

they need to do a maurice fulton "misch masch" because so much of his work is as a remixer.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

So I got the PJ Pooterhoots 12" and LOVE it. Especially side A-- though the Hall & Oates cover is delicious. I got the Boxsaga 12 Back Inside which is probably the best Basement Jaxx song they've never released, in a rubbery funky halogen stylee. I got a few other things... My My and Narcotic Syntax... the recent ones.

But anyway, anyone got any fresh recommendations?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 March 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

no?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 March 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

There are plenty of them, just scattered on all different threads :)
