My Chemical Romance "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)"

The months have passed, but my love for this clip hasn't, won't, can't. From the white-text-on-green preview screen, the opening dialogue (that I can never remember), the bloody anime couple sliding together, I'm hooked over and over again, despite the fact that I was sorta afraid of people like this in the all-boyz, must wear suits'n'ties'n'blazers high school I attended.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 14 March 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Lou Reed, "I Love You Suzanne." I recorded it four weeks ago and watch it religiously. It's even more fun when you're drunk.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 14 March 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

Barenaked Ladies, "Jane." There's a poignancy to the song that comes across really well in the video and I've never been able to articulate why.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Monday, 14 March 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

Sabrina 'Boys, boys, boys'

Marcel Verhoeven (Marcel Verhoeven), Monday, 14 March 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

unsurprisingly i like the Jem clip

and Shynola's 'E Pro' for Beck appeals to me a lot too

Sven Bastard (blueski), Monday, 14 March 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

Brooke Valentine - Girlfight

the subtitled scene! the knockout punch! the tit-shaking! Big Boi looking very confused! the girl smearing Vaseline on her face!

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 14 March 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

"Shock the Monkey" by Peter Gabriel. I will never tire of this.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 March 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

My Chemical Romance "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)"

Seconded. I couldn't hum the tune if you paid me to, but the video is excellent.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 March 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

“I’m NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKKKAY/I’m not OKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYEA.....”

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 14 March 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

Paranoid Android, obv.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Monday, 14 March 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

My Chemical Romance "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)"

Shit yeah. Also "Helena"

Not like I even need to say it, but "Mr. Brightside" owns this thread.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Monday, 14 March 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Really? The video for "Mr.Brightside" made me like the song a whole lot fuckin' less.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

It's a thing of beauty, man. Turned the Killers into rock stars with one shot.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Monday, 14 March 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

Alex OTM w/r/t “Mr. Brightside.”

If only I’d just heard the song on the radio – maybe I’d be mad for it. But I had to catch the video, which might be my least favorite video of recent times, maybe worse than that latest Snoop one (I think for “Let’s Get Blown”).

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 14 March 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

yeah, that Snoop one's no good.

But while we're on the topic, "Drop It Like It's Hot" def. qualifies for this thread.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Monday, 14 March 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

"Break Yo' Neck" by Busta Rhymes is pretty classic,......especially the bit where he and Dr.Dre are on the steam roller, looking paniced.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 March 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

I like the My Chemical Romance video too. The only line I can recall from the song is "the photographs your boyfriend took," which in context makes me think dirty things about high school girls in plaid skirts. So that's another point in the band's favor.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Monday, 14 March 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

for some reason Pavement's "Cut Your Hair"

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Monday, 14 March 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

Busta Rhymes again with "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See"...that damn elephant chasing him down the corridor as he wears his pimp out fit and does this eccentric pimp-stride...classic. The whole video's such a singular experience...warped my ten-year-old mind forever!

Quit glaring at Ian Riese-Moraine! He's mentally fraught! (Eastern Mantra), Monday, 14 March 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

You were ten when that came out?

There's nothing like ILM to make you feel way fuckin' old.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 March 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

Agreed. I was 30 when "Woo Hah! (Got You All in Check)" warped *my* mind.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 14 March 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

There ya go. Cheers, Rickey. Agree, "Whoo Ha" completely restored my faith in Hip Hop.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 March 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At

Because you can't go wrong with monkeys and Patton Oswald.

darin (darin), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 00:11 (twenty years ago)

Paton Oswald is in that video? I don't recall that.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 00:12 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, pretty sure it was, although I was usually pretty fucked up on wine by the time 120 Minutes came on so I could be wrong.

darin (darin), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

By 1986, Genesis has long since ceased making music as great as they used to in the 70s. But "Land Of Confusion" remains a classic, even after the death of its "main character".

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

Right now I'm sort of stuck on that Dizzee Rascal video...

giboyeux (skowly), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay: thirded/fourthed, whatever. YAY!
Busta Rhymes - Whoo Ha!!: also YAY!
Roger Glover - Love Is All (the Butterfly Ball song)
Bjork - Human Nature

recent video I can't remember the name of: 4 piece band playing in garage, variously impersonate 80's hair bands to impress woman across street, song: quite forgettable, video: hilarious.

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

Mu's video for "Paris Hilton" is AMAZING. And YOU know it!

I think Ariel Pink's "For Kate I Wait" is fucking hilarious. Only the reactions I've gotten to it have been polarized. I can't understand how anyone can not find this laugh-out-loud funny.

Adam Bruneau (oliver8bit), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 06:12 (twenty years ago)

Also grate: the original "Get Right" video. The remix one with Fabolous kinda annoying. DUDE U R NOT JAY-Z

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

both songs and videos are inexcusable.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Gren Day's "Warning"- get this, the dude's ignoring ALL the warnings. ALL of them!!

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Saturday, 26 March 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

I really wish I could see the "Paris Hilton" video (the Mu one!)

The one video I can never get enough of is Daft Punk's "Around The World".

Seb (Seb), Saturday, 26 March 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

four months pass...
Gwen Stefani "Cool"
Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc."

I can't get these songs out of my head (in a good way)!
