Is it time David Gedge got over his ex?

Nice new album, Dave - but isn't it time to let her go and start singing about something else?

Yeah, but it at least got him away from Cinerama (who stank) and back to the Wedding Present (who don't).

ole big head gedge :)

latest incarnation is still miles away from primetime weddoes... its nice they play the classics, buts its still cinerama. new drummer is better though.

Remind me again exactly how (in what ways) this new Wedding Present album sounds different from the last Cinerama album?

also, Torino is waaay better than Take Fountain

Take Fountain does have some really obligatory-sounding "hey hey we're the Wedding Present" moments, and the palette's obviously a lot more rigorously guitar-based than Cinerama's. But yeah, songwriting-wise it seems this is just the point that Gedge is at now; it's not like he's modulating it between projects; this is what he's up to.

(In fact, in the process of reviewing the new WP I started to feel like Gedge's development is mirroring Elvis Costello's in a lot of ways -- starting blunt and snappy and then mellowing into a nice "adult" songwriter who'll occasionally go back and do rock exercises.)

Agreed with Rentboy about Torino - as good as any Weddoes album except Bizarro. I feel that a lot of the people who dismissed Cinerama didn't listen past Va Va Voom (which isn't so good).
Also, think of Gedge as a keen observer of the human condition when it comes to love / jealousy etc. Do you really want to hear him singing about Iraq? Drugs? He has a lovely turn of phrase...

gedge is god.

that said, "take fountain" is undeniably a cinerama album.

if that's the case then it's the first Cinerama album i've liked.

It's a different girl this time. So, the weddoes good for another 10 years?

Really? A different girl? Spill the beans!

Nice to see the John Peel dedication in the liner notes
