Like a lot of people, I presume, I first learned about her from the ubiquitous "whoo-yeah" sample from the Eighties. After that, "Think (About it)" actually became a hit single. I bought a copy, it is ace. Look for Lyn Collins on the James Brown's Funky People compilations.

She will be missed again and again and again and again and again. Much respect.

Wow, only 56? Very sad. Easily an underappreciated singer.

to think where we'd be without 'Think'. 56 is far too young. sad.

"Yes, I *am* somebody."

All I know is 'Think', but that songs towers over most artist's entire output. Another sad death.

"Think" was my doorway into classic funk & soul from hip-hop. I seriously can't imagine my musical life without having heard that song.

We'll miss you, Ms. Collins.

James Brown Funky People is really a showcase for Miss Collins - her tracks are the standouts! She will be missed. Although I hadn't heard of her performing or anything recently.

James Brown's Funky Divas is also worth checking out - I just can't believe she was only 56.

Check Me Out if You Don't Know Me by Now is also a fantastic Collins album.

Such sad news. Who are the Lynn Collinses of today? Sharon Jones?

Sara Sherr, Wednesday, 16 March 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

yikes, 56. RIP female preacher.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

this is sad. 'Think' is one of the best songs ever, but she's certainly not a one hit wonder. I have a soft spot for the albums too, esp her version of 'Foggy Day'

Robin Goad (rgoad), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

RIP

"Think" is a classic - I just played it the other day at home!
