Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

You know, I like the opening score from Star Trek III quite a bit, but its largely just a rewash of Star Trek II, admittedly due to budget constraints. Overall, I'm going to go with Horner's original, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. BUT I will say the best opening was actually from Star Trek: First Contact.

well after plowing thru the 3 Original Series DVDs I've now moved on to the movies so I should have some fresh, half-baked opinions shortly. I'd forgotten that the score for the first one was turned into the themesong for Next Generation. It's okay, I guess, but I remember Wrath of Khan being the better score, for some reason.

Baron, what was your least favorite? Star Trek IV and Insurrection did VERY little for me...

Star Trek IV, mostly for the stupid little bit that plays when Chekhov is running through the aircraft carrier.

I think they have gotten progressively worse since the one Shatner directed. Can't think of which exactly is my least favorite though.

I hear what people are saying about Khan. It's epic. I's pretty fucking psychedelic, too, so that almost is my favorite. But something about the darkness of III does it for me the most.

wait are we talking just the scores or the films themselves here...?

"Generations", the one where Kirk dies, was just on TV last weekend. What a horrible film. Shatner's death scene is a complete waste. Only the even-numbered ones are good - Wrath of Khan being the best, IV being "the funny one", VI is tops as an admirable send-off for the Original Series Crew, VIII is "First Contact", which is probably the best of the NG films...

I'm talking about the scores. But don't let that stop anyone. (I agree with all that stuff you say about the film narratives, though, except I guess I like "Generations" better.)

Star Trek III, I still have the soundtrack cassette!

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (which I started watching last night - DIRECTOR'S CUT! I fell asleep after half an hour, right around when the Enterprise finally left the docking bay) is far and away the most "psychedelic" - not just musically, but visually. It's all basically one big long abstract space painting.
