Some of the biggest FLOPS in history (picture thread)!

That Tin Machine album actually debuted at number one in the UK on the week of release, though. ;-)

The best thing about the Culture Club cover is the picture of bassist Mikey in the one piece on the trapeze.

I am pretty sure Michael Jackson debuted quite a bit up in the charts too...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if there's any truth to the story about the dude who died in a DeLorean because it rolled over onto its roof, he couldn't open the gullwing doors, the windows didn't roll down and he eventually burned to death.

Yeah, like Ned, I'm interested in the segway thing - they seem like such an anachronism already...does anyone put them to good use - or has anyone here ever, erm, taken a ride on one?

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 02:56 (twenty years ago)

Some toolshiner was riding one around outside Shoreline Amphitheater. Question - is it possible for someone to ride one of those things without looking smug?

As for flops...I say:

Well, that's the last time I ever try to post an image.

Ryan Pitchfork, Wednesday, 16 March 2005 04:25 (twenty years ago)

I don't get Spaghetti Incident being here. cover albums are rarely considered proper follow ups to albums of original material, at least by bands like G'n'R (although it probably sold less than Lies). but I mean, saying a covers album is a flop is like saying a live album is a flop; there's not really that kind of expectations riding on it.

"Worst selling musical recording in Columbia Records history!" according to legend. Dunno if any morons took the title seriously; but if they did, those two hunks of cardboard-shrouded vinyl couldn'tve much harder to swallow than THIS >

-- Vic Funk

Dunno 'bout D-Generation, but yeah, I've seen conflicting accounts in several places (including HERE) skip spence's "oar" -- visionary underground classic or over-romanticized obscurist sham?
regarding both the Spence & Hampton recs, so that "worst-selling Columbia" designation must be one of those unattributed "dancing about architecture"-type statements.

Oar probably IS the worse-selling of the two, really. And a friend of mine once insisted that Columbia's REAL worst-seller was Terence Trent D'arby's Neither Fish Nor Flesh but he's fulla shit.

sleep (sleep), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

There is a popular myth that, because Atari produced infinitely more games than they could hope to sell (given the profoundly negative reception), they actually buried a bundle and paved a parking lot on top of them . In the summer, of course, the polymer ooze seeps through the cracks like poorly concealed toxic waste.

Steve Gertz (sgertz), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

LOL Denilson was such as flop, he ended up in Norwegian club football last autumn, and was usually one of the worst player on his (quite average) team :-)
