Dr. Eldon Tyrell (ex machina), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

DIE KREUZEN first LP
In the top 10 of American hardcore. Vinyl and insert are G/VG. In the afterlife, members of Die Kreuzen will feast on the still-living flesh of the members of “Mohinder” and “Braid”.

Dr. Eldon Tyrell (ex machina), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

I have like at least 20% of these records

Dr. Eldon Tyrell (ex machina), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 04:37 (twenty years ago)

omg tit wrench! a friend of mine was just raving abt them. well, the name anyway.

f--gg (gcannon), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 04:52 (twenty years ago)

that's like my whole record collection from high school, all of which got sold in a similar purging manner a few years ago. the COC comment about Mike Dean is hilariously accurate.

DAG NASTY “Can I Say” and “Wig Out At Denkos” LP (Dischord)
Ouch. “Can I Say” is a great LP the same way that “It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” is a great animated holiday special; if you are exposed more than once every three years you will need an insulin shot. “Wig Out At Denkos” is not so great, although the band thanks Albany, NY on the insert, largely due to the fawning of me and my high school buddies. “Wig Out” is in good shape. “Can I Say” has been battered to hell from repeated listening many years ago. Man Sam needs to get in the time machine and have a serious discussion with Teenage Sam.

EMBRACE LP (Dischord)
See Dag Nasty. Vinyl, cover and insert and VG.

RITES OF SPRING LP (Dischord)
See Embrace. Vinyl, insert sleeve and cover are VG.

SOULSIDE “Trigger”, “Less Deep Inside Keeps” and “Hot Bodi-Gram” LPs (Dischord)
Something about the overbearing earnestness of all these DC bands wears thin with time. I liked these guys a lot as both musicians and people, but I have no use for their records. All vinyl and inserts are G/VG. Spine damage on 2 LPs from a bad cat.

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 06:22 (twenty years ago)

a nice parrot-y thread

Must every thread have a doppelganger now?

SKREWDRIVER “All Screwed Up” LP
Their pre-racist LP, yellow cover. Vocalist Ian Stewart resembles comedian David Cross on his back cover photo. Vinyl is G/VG, with ominously blank labels.

latebloomer: damn cheapskate satanists (latebloomer), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

SCHOOLLY D “Smoke Some Kill” LP (Jive)
You may only know of Schoolly D through Abel Ferrara films or Aqua Teen Hunger Force. As one of Philadelphia’s pioneering early 80’s rappers, D paved the way for what is now known as gansta rap and did so with about 10,000 times more wit and goodness than anything you will hear oompa-oompaing from that SUV next to you at the red light. This a great record. I am actually tearing up as I write this. Vinyl is VG.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

I want to have Sam Mcpheeters' babies. That is all

DJ Mencap0))), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

I saw the words "Korny" and "Born Again(st)", & thought that Korn guitarist was purging his collection of anything unclean.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

More pull quotes, plz! Work cockfarmery prevents me from browsing!

ASSUCK “Anticapital” LP (Sound Pollution)
Early 90’s Florida thrash. Members thought it would be ok to rework an old Life Magazine photo of a guy getting lynched. It was equally repulsive when “Pung” and Billy Joel reworked this image. Vinyl is VG and insert is included.

BORN AGAINST “Rebel Sound” LP test press (Vermiform)
I eBay’d this to some turkey years ago and engaged in a long email exchange in which the record was never actually purchased. So; take 2. Also, a certain visiting friend from a certain New England state later got drunk and drew the words “white power” and a swastika on the labels. Making this something of a conversation piece. VG.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY “Eye For An Eye” LP (Toxic Shock)
Never was gaga over these guys. In his back cover photo, Mike Dean looks like one of those scary, overmuscled hobos one sees at the Santa Cruz bus station. Not sure which pressing this is, all print on the cover is red. Vinyl and insert are in good shape. Cover very slightly scuffed.

DISCHARGE “Never Again”, “Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing”, “1980-1986”, “Why” LP (Clay)
1) If you don’t like Discharge, you are a fool. 2) If you start a band that sounds like Discharge, you are a fool. Two of these four albums were the soundtracks to my high school life. Vinyl on all is G/VG. Two covers bowed from slight water damage.

DIRTY ROTTEN IMBECILES “Dealing With It” (Death / Enigma)
See C.O.C. These guys toured together, went metal together, achieved the same level of mediocrity together. Vinyl G (surface scuffs), cover and insert a bit worn. Not to be confused with the 1988 film starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine.

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK soundtrack LP (Varese Sarabande)
This is as good as it gets; John Carpenter and Alan Howarth’s electronic score for 1981’s EFNY. Interestingly, no pictures of star Kurt Russell appear anywhere on this record. Thirteen tracks of Sergio Leone inspired brilliance, marred only slightly by the TV Partyish “Everyone’s Coming To New York” mock cabaret piece at the end of side one. Producer Debra Hill just passed away earlier this month. Debra, this entire auction is for you. Vinyl plays well but has significant surface scuffs. Cover is worn. This record was loved.

FAITH “Subject To Change” and FAITH/VOID split LP (Dischord)
Two of the best records of the 20th century. Vinyl VG on both, insert included. A coming-of-age benchmark: realizing that Void was a better band than Faith. A coming-of-middle-age benchmark: realizing that you don’t give an ass.

FEAR “The Record” (Slash) and “More Beer” (Enigma)
“The Record” is such an eclipsing triumph that I think it has blinded future generations to the greatness of “More Beer”. Both are stupendous records. Fear played the Dickies show I attended in Hollywood a few years ago, but I got too depressed at the audience and left after the first band. Vinyl on both is VG. No insert for first record.

GODFLESH “Streetcleaner” LP (Earache)
I liked the part of this band’s career where they played Maxwells in Hoboken and accidentally stepped on and destroyed their drummer. Vinyl is VG, insert is included.

HALF OFF “The Truth” LP (New Beginning)
A dreadful little pap smear of an album. Half Off had the dubious distinction of being one of the first non-straight edge straightedge bands, and the lyrics include hilarious misspellings of “your” and “too”. The cover art is a 6th grade pencil drawing. Vinyl is G/VG, cover just slightly dinged up, someone (not me) has underlined certain names on the band’s thanks list.

IGNITION “Machination” and “The Orafying Mysticle of...” LPs (Dischord)
This band hasn’t aged well. I’m not sure why these two LPs had such a huge impact on me. From the hindsight of 2005, the decidedly plodding songwriting and Santa Fe crystal shop graphics reek of Hippie Stink. Bassist Chris Thomson would go on to much better things. Vinyl on both is G/VG, covers show some wear (scuffs, minor seam split, one stray pen mark).

MARGINAL MAN “Identity” LP (Dischord)
Artificial Peace changed their name to Marginal Man in 1982 and released this very early emo record the following year. Supposedly guitarist Kenny Inouye’s father, the senior senator from Hawaii Daniel K. Inouye, attended the band’s farewell show at DC Space many moons ago. So there’s that. Vinyl is G/VG, insert included.

NATION OF ULYSSES “13-Point Program To Destroy America” and “Plays Pretty For Baby” LPs (Dischord)
These are two brutally talented albums by one of the best live bands this seller has ever seen. Vinyl on both is a little overplayed with some stray cat hairs. Covers are likewise slightly scuffed with a few seam splits. In the 21st century, where outside forces actually have a program to destroy America, would this band’s shtick have worked?

NAUSEA “Extinction” LP (Profane Existence)
Amy Miret was still in the band at this point, so the record isn’t a total loss. Gatefold. Vinyl VG.

OLD SKULL “Get Outta School” LP (Restless)
If an adult forces three pre-adolescent boys to form a punk band, when does that become child abuse? Vinyl is G/VG, cover has some spine damage and sticker rip.

RAW POWER “Screams From The Gutter” LP (Toxic Shock)
If you like wild Italian hardcore then you will like this record. Unfortunately the cover has been badly water damaged, with huge rips and tears. Vinyl’s a little scuffed up as well.

RORSCHACH “Protestant” (Gern Blansten)
This is Rorschach’s 2nd and final LP, a great listen. Although the labels are blank, this is not a test pressing; label Gern Blandsten apparently couldn’t get their act together to fully package the thing. To make matters worse, I drew a cartoon pig and a swastika and the words “backstabbing son of a bitch” on these particular blank labels. What can I say, I was upset, it was wrong, I deeply regret my actions.

SUICIDAL TENDENCIES LP (Frontier)
What can a man write about this album? That it was produced, Gordon Parks style, by renowned photographer Glen E. Friedman? That someone has actually spelled the band’s name “Suicible Tendancies” in a photo on the back cover? That I’m not sure if actually like this record on its own terms or just as kitsch? Vinyl is VG w/ a few thumbprints. Cover is in good condition.

V/A ‘Four Old 7”s On A 12”’ LP (Dischord)
Ouch, but not the Dag Nasty ouch. This record meant a lot to me in 1985. S.O.A., Teen Idles, Government Issue, Youth Brigade. Vinyl is VG, insert included.

V/A “The Decline Of Western Civilization” soundtrack LP. (Slash)
Another winner. Black Flag, Germs, Catholic Discipline, X, Circle Jerks, Alice Bag Band, Fear. Vinyl is scuffed and worn. Cover is ok. Insert included. Why would anyone make a sequel to this movie??

V/A “We’re All In The Same Gang” 12” (WB / Grand Jury Entertainment)
Like “We Are The World” only anti-gang violence instead of anti-world hunger. 1990 12” single. Features King Tee, Body & Soul, Def Jef, Michel’le [sic], Tone Loc, Above The Law, Ice-T, N.W.A., JJ Fad, Young MC, Digital Underground, Oaktown 3.5.7., MC Hammer, Eazy-E. I’d write something like this is probably the only record that will feature both NWA and MC Hammer, but honestly; who cares? Produced by Dr. Dre. Vinyl has surface scuffs and no sleeve. Cover has two stickers and is ugly.
