The Carole King LP gives me infinite delight. Most especially "Avenue P," minor chord masterpiece. Between that and Sesame Street, I knew I wanted to live in New York by the time I was four.

This was my son's first musical fave rave (Raffi don't count) and a few years later his school cobbled together a stage version for its annual play (his 1st grade class sang "Alligators All Around.")

you can get a dvd on amazon that has all the music clips from the 30 minute film but not the whole movie. it is a dvd that also has Wheree The Wild Things Are.

that is honestly one of my favorite albums and cartoons ever. I have the CD and VHS and need to transfer it to DVD someday. The DVD available is as close as you can get. I used to go to my public library afterschool in shaker heights and watch that shit on a 16mm print. over and over again. kind of obsessed. the feedback on the amazon is really funny - check it out. parents were complaining maurice sendak was too dark and scared their kids!

kids today are lame if they don't love this.

But yeah, we had an 8mm projector in the days before VCRs and every year for my sister's bday my dad would go to the library and get Really Rosie. For my bday we'd watch Hardware Wars. The only 8mm reels I remember owning were like, 60s footage of the Harlem Globetrotters!

but dude, i'm sure it came up sometime in conversation with Lauren, but I didn't know you were from Shaker Heights. My mother is and my grandmother still lives there.

I got a VHS copy at the thrift store about a month ago! Not the greatest copy in the world, but what the hell. Of course, by this point, Rufus (who is 3) is already so over Rosie. it was the first time I had seen it since the 70's.

rufus really loves convoy. we have a mid-70's comp of trucker songs called Put The Hammer Down! and it's by far his favorite thing to listen to. convoy, phantom 309, i'm a truck, all the biggies. he's a trucky kid (and he didn't get it from me. i'm really un-trucky).

Ha ha, trucks are so big for the boys. I had a parent tell me her daughter loved trucks as well though, so maybe it's becoming a more equal-opportunity subject. I didn't realize it extended to music as well. Does he like the Donald Crews and Byron Barton books, or has he outgrown them as well?
