rock defined

rock is all about punching in bartenders faces and quadruple harmony guitar solos. rock is all about od'ing on seven different drugs simultaneously in the motel room of underaged groupies. rock is about jumping on police cars and screaming garbled obscenities through megaphones to crowds of churchgoers. rock is merchandising. rock is cutting yourself with razorblades and selling bottles of your own blood to twelve year old girls along with a six page spread about which clothes are in this $eason. rock is the receding tide, pushing expired cartons of vinyl back to the ocean from whence it came. rock is the toothache that you feel upon climbing the largest mountain in the world, only to realize that you never left your couch. for it is rock which we entrust our silver-haired youth unto; the spiral decline through cavemen and molemen and return of the factory of the nemesis of 'them'. the procrastination starts and the assembly line takes over. we force our three chord culture through a prog-cola seive and watch as the dogs that are men lap the grunge off the floor of a truck stop shower. the demons retired, they shave off their horns and forgive a thousand sins that were never commited by the harmonics of lee harvey aerosmith. it is rock; that undeniable ocean of lies, the aftermath of a barbara walters special. the swimming of a baker's dozen cultural flaws into the nether-regions of dissent. the clamour of a buzzsaw, at once waxing prophetic and taking the lungs out of a racehorse.

Rock = noise hitting eardrums. The poetry of rock = trash.

Is this like that annual competition to write like Hemingway or Faulkner, 'cept instead emulating Robyn Hitchcock? 'Cos you need more insects in there if you wanna win...

Tyler makes rock sound like the life-story of G.G. Allin. Which is a very depressing thought, if you think about it some.

"Ridin' down the highway, goin' to a show, stop in all the by-ways, playin' rock 'n' roll. Gettin' robbed, gettin' stoned, gettin' beat up, broken boned. Gettin' had, gettin' took, I tell you folks it's harder than it looks. It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock 'n' roll. Hotel, motel, make you wanna cry. Lady do the hard sell, know the reason why. Gettin' old, gettin' grey. Gettin' ripped off, under-paid. Gettin' sold, second hand. That's how it goes playin' in a band. It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock 'n' roll..."
