i'd be grateful for any reccomendations about supercool music blogs w/ .mp3 links... i guess i get the biggest kick out of discovering killer overlooked/obscure pop/rock groups from the 60s/70s/80s & i occasionally like checking out over-hyped/pitchfork bands, etc.. help a dude out

whos blog is that stormy?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

that would be ILM poster dlp9001. He's got some really great stuff in the archives; I can't remember how long he keeps older MP3s up there but it's worth taking a look. Often fits in with the original posters 'killer overlooked/obscure pop/rock groups from the 60s/70s/80s' criteria.

I really enjoy Jaymc's bizarre, faintly autistic mutterings on jukeboxes and useless statistics and childhood here : http://www.jaymc.blogspot.com

Sometimes I think he might mention these pitchfork bands of which you speak!

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Thursday, 24 March 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

awesome nate! are you gonna do all of the stuff sampled on pauls boutique?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 24 March 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

No -- it's actually more of a rundown of some of the more obscure tracks on my CDR-Go comps (though for '71, '73-'76 and '78 I'm going to be drawing from stuff I haven't put into CDR Go! form yet and probably won't). It just so happens that a ton of the songs I like from that particular era ("Never Let 'Em Say"; Harvey Scales' "Dancing Room Only"; Lightnin' Rod's "Sport"; The Bar-Kays' "Holy Ghost"; Funk Factory's "Rien Ne Va Plus"; Southside Movement's "Save the World"; The Crusaders' "The Well's Gone Dry" -- and that's only counting the stuff that's obscurish, not "When the Levee Breaks" and "Those Shoes" and "That Lady") are on my list. I did compile all the (confirmable) songs that showed up on Paul's Boutique, though, and in all there's roughly 88 of 'em. Bananas.

One of the first, if not the first, not to mention great writing, enjoyable and diverse selections, clean layout, pretty much everything one could ever want from a Mp3 Blog and more. And bonus points because Sean, the owner, has been championing the Arcade Fire since... 2002?!?
