God what a shitty way to go. I've had tons of fun memories to Foghat tunage -- including the very first time I ever got drunk back in high school! but I've told that story elsewhere I'm sure. Anyway, RIP Rod. I will go blast "Fool For the City" in your honor.

Goin' to the city, got you on my mind,Country sure is pretty, I'll leave it all behind,This is my decision, I'm comin' home to stay this time.
'Cause I'm a fool for the city, I'm a fool for the city,Fool for the city, I'm a fool for the city.
Breathin' all the clean air, sittin' in the sun,When I get my train fare, I'll get up and run.I'm ready for the city, air pollution here I come!
'Cause I'm a fool for the city, I'm a fool for the city,I'm a fool for the city, I'm a fool for the city.
I'm like a fish out of water, I'm just a man in a hole. The city lights turn my blues into gold.I ain't no country boy, I'm just a homesick man.I'm gonna hit the grit just as fast as I can.
I'm tired of layin' back, hangin' around,I'm gonna catch that train, then I'll be city bound.
I ain't no country boy, I'm just a homesick man.I'm gonna hit the grit just as fast as I can.
I'll get off on Main Street, step into the crowd,Sidewalk under my feet, yeah, traffic's good and loud. When I see my inner city child, I'll be walkin' on a cloud.
'Cause I'm a fool for the city, I'm a fool for the city,I'm a fool for the city, I'm a fool for the city...

He came back for "Return of the Boogie Men" which originally had been slated to be a Rick Rubin project. Rubin was a fan but never got his ass together for it, so Foghat made the record without him. Price also played on a subsequent live record, "Road Cases," produced by Ron Nevison. "Road Cases" doesn't replace Foghat's best seller, "Foghat Live," it's too long, for one -- but it is a good showcase for all of the band's best material.
Shortly thereafter Dave Peverett died of complications due to cancer and it was my impression that Price again left for his own work. You would too. Foghat without the voice of Lonesome Dave? Simply impossible. The band recruited ex-Nugent sideman Charlie Huhn and recorded "Family Jewels" under the name. It was a credible hard rock boogie record but not Foghat. Naturally, my old hometown's snobby yuppie summer festival -- the Bethlehem Music Fest -- promptly booked Foghat as its headliner. Foghat without Peverett or Rod Price. Who would want to hear that? Might as well hire the local top garage band to do a Foghat set.
Live and on record, Foghat had the density of a heavy metal band -- the relentless slide of Price had a lot to do with that -- and many times the energy of standard punk rock. Amazing what four blues, r&B and rockabilly purists could do when they set their minds to it.

There was a pic of the foghat on the first Foghat album cover. You blind? Oot-greet.
Hey Stormy, way to put 'em in their place! Imagine, walking into the death notice of someone fondly remembered and urinating on the floor.

Sometime in the Summer of 1996, Foghat played after a minor-league baseball game in Louisville with Mountain and Iron Butterfly (I didn't actually witness this, unfortunately). According to my friends who were present, Foghat started the set by having the lead singer ask the audience, "Do we have your permission to JAM?!?!?" When he received a positive, enthusiastic response, he then yelled "Then jam we must!!!!" and they broke into a 20-minute version of "Slow Ride," which was basically their whole set. My friend Chris took off his shirt and twirled it 'round his head.
