S&D: Compilations that should be dropped onto everyone's iPod

What boxed sets or compilations would you suggest everyone should have shuffling through their iPod to spice things up (but not fuck things up, Merzbow fans!). I'll start with "Tougher Than Tough: The History of Jamaican Music," the contents of which deserve to be scrambled into anyone's iPod mix.

How 'bout some more suggestions?

i was going to say Lee Scratch Perry's "Arkology" but you've got the Jamaican angle covered. It's still damn good on shuffle. I love the fan compiled 4CD set of 7"mixes, rare edits and b-sides by New Order titled "International 2". Perfect collection IMHO and damn good rips of the 7"s that have never appeared on CD. Other good comps for the shuffle. Morr Music's "Putting The Morr Back Into Morrissey", Warp Records' "Influences" and "Classics" and all 6 discs of Mo Wax's "Headz" series.

X-post @ Josh in Chicago:

Not sure, it was easy for me to get since i post at NOOL with too much frequency. If you really are in Chicago, i could send you a copy. Probably easier than you downloading 4 discs worth of stuff.

None, because the iPod can't handle VA compilations without screwing up your whole Artist list

Howw do you mean? I've never had that problem. Sometimes it will list the same artist twice, but I don't see that as a major issue.

I don't want it to list the artist at all when it's part of a compilation. I like to browse by artist on the iPod, and once you have a lot of VA collections on there, the artist list gets polluted with all these people you have one song by. It's just annoying, there should be an option (and yes, I know there's a checkbox in iTunes that says "Is Compilation" but it doesn't fix this problem).

Anyway, sorry to piss on the party here...I vote for Sugarhill Records Story

Ah, I see what you mean. That doesn't bother me, but I understand why it might bug someone else.
