How nice for you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 April 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

yes. even the latest one, giving head to john the baptist etc notwithstanding. not sure about his performance in the aviator though. might have to be a little funny to appreciate that one

It's possible for a straight man to enjoy anything.

What about gay sex?

"As long as it's with another straight man"

I like gay songs.

billstevejim, Friday, 1 April 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

Count one straight man-fan here.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Friday, 1 April 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

What's all this, then?

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 1 April 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

some of my best friends are gay sons of famous parents who sing. they all sing.

I find Rufus uneven, to say the least, but "Poses" is pretty fine, and I sure love "California," one of my faves from the last few years as pop songs go. I listen to it, and I think it moved...

edd s hurt (ddduncan), Friday, 1 April 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

It's also possible that us gay men are dismayed by how crappy the "Want" albums are.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Friday, 1 April 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

Rufus's downward spiral from genius to mediocrity has been positively Ryan Adams-ish to behold.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 1 April 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Gay Messiah is good, though.

Atnevon (Atnevon), Friday, 1 April 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

(Questionable title notwithstanding)

Atnevon (Atnevon), Friday, 1 April 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

My introduction to Rufus Wainwright was going to a show of his with a woman on whom I had a huge crush. And a great show it was, too. So, yes, straight men can enjoy his music.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 1 April 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Seems like his Daddy wrote a song about it him with a title which implied he was a straight man.

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 1 April 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

is it possible for a gay man to be totally indifferent to mediocre blithering he-divas?

joseph (joseph), Friday, 1 April 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

straight on straight gay action!

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 1 April 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

The idea of Rufus Wainright is less gay than the PR machine that goes after them thar gay dollars...

jdw, Friday, 1 April 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

Is it ludicrous to imply that sexual orientation may affect one's appreciation of Rufus Wainwright, or for that matter, any artist whatsoever?

otm jdw re the pink dollar (a term i just wanted to use).

piers is right. I love Rufus but the crush is on Martha.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 1 April 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

"Men reading fashion magazines! Straight men!" God, the lyrics to that song are so bad. Rufus weighs in on the metrosexual phenomenon, wow. How droll. At least it's better than "My Phones on Vibrate for You". Just keep cracking the silly, narcissistic jokes, Rufus, and quit it with the "witty" social commentary shit, please. I never liked it when your dad did it either.

Sadly, I think Alfred Soto and Polyphonic are pretty much OTM. He's still great live, though.

Love at the Pier (Arthur), Saturday, 2 April 2005 03:52 (twenty years ago)

no

cornelius crash (cornelius crash), Saturday, 2 April 2005 05:23 (twenty years ago)

If it's "no", do I get to choose between dick and Rufus?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 2 April 2005 05:36 (twenty years ago)

Were it not for the sheer intolerability of this guy, I would call his crash and burn a shame b/c his debut is fantastic. But read that interview in Uncut a few months back and everything since becomes crystal clear.
