is this a neptunes production? whatever the case, it's getting play on mtv base (african version, at least) in between teedra moses and brooke valentine. i don't think it's very good, but is this kinda portentous as regards marketing grime (or at least kano) to a us market? (i don't know if we really want to have that conversation again so then maybe just talk about the - again, kinda lousy - song)

Sway is not grime, in fact he purposefully distances himself from it.

Sure he works with people like Bruza and Wonder but he places himself firmly in the rapper camp.

See his track Call My Name (Wonder Production) for his stance.

"as far as garage goes, i dont't mind it
i don't do it, that don't mean i don't like it...

...i like rap man, that's like my shit"

much better song as well.

He also bag brutally on UK hip-hop on the same track though. "Call My Name" is great btw.

Sway is just an average UK rapper with some personality who a couple of people who've signed him to a small label for his first album proper are now trying to push to Americans as a grime kid (re: instores at Turntable Lab etc).

The only conclusion to all this is that Americans are dumb and will buy anything if pitched to them right. So, Sway = the pet rock of grime.
