Anyone know anything about these guys? I just caught their new cartoon video "The Price" on The Wedge and liked it. I downloaded the MP3's at their site and enjoyed the overall sound of some of them (highlights are "Powerblaster" and "Message from the 2ueen" maybe except some of the lyrics). It's some sort of warped indie-ish prog-rock with really drawn-out song structures, intricate dissonant guitar parts, comically overblown singing, electronic beats and atmospheric effects, and goofy lyrics. It's kind of cheesy but i find it interesting. I can see how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but I'm interested if anyone knows more about them. Are And Gun or The Price any good? They seem to be from around here (playing C'est What in July) although the web site is pretty annoyingly obtuse about providing any actual info. I think it might possibly be of interest to Rheostatics fans but I've barely heard the Rheostatics so I'm just pulling stuff out of my ass.

Huh, the more I listen I actually wonder if it's just one guy who plays guitar and sings over electronic backdrops.

(Obv I welcome contributions from non-Torontonians and non-prog-afficionados too.)

He's from Hamilton. And Gun is very good, only seen him once or twice, but you can get the albums from Soundscapes or Rotate. Usually plays fairly often, good to see live.

"Message From the 2ueen" reminded me, oddly enough, of Super Furry Animals' "Hello Sunshine". "Phantom Power" was essentially a psych-folk album, although not nearly as relaxed and proggy as Wax Mannequin are.
