I think it's the best new wave song by an older musician doing new wave.

New contender for worst thing I've ever read on ILM.

charleston charge (chaki), Sunday, 3 April 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

I still haven't heard it (need to get back on my computer to access p2p). I have a hunch it's like Dope Nose in terms of quality. Which is a compliment, I guess.

weezer is not my cup of tea, but I love you chaki!

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 4 April 2005 03:46 (twenty years ago)

"fuck you, suck my dick"
yeah yeah, I don't like your comment so, do something gay for me. There is no need to be too intellectual on the board Charleston.

That t-shirt picture would be a lot better if the person wasn't cut out.

three years pass...

New song, "Pork and Beans" streaming at http://weezer.com/.

It's not aggressively terrible like Beverly Hills was, but it doesn't excite me either. Really pedestrian melody.

St3ve Go1db3rg, Thursday, 17 April 2008 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

I actually kind of like this. I will probably hate it soon though. Thats how it always goes with anything Weezer has released since Green...

jonathan - stl, Thursday, 17 April 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

Dang, I need some Advil or something, that song made me all woozy. It could be a grower, though, and I can imagine college kids at a party blasting it. Sounds like Rivers must have spend some time listening to '154' or 'Chairs Missing' or something, because that songs got a bunch of off-kilter vertigo-inducing riffs.

Chelvis, Thursday, 17 April 2008 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

Actually, it sounds like textbook rock action after the first listen, and will probably end up all over clear channel's radio stations and you'll hear it in big box stores while buying shoes.

Chelvis, Thursday, 17 April 2008 20:51 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

I don't even know what to make of this one.

The Greatest Man That Ever Lived

St3ve Go1db3rg, Sunday, 18 May 2008 16:07 (seventeen years ago)

Don't be mad because Rivers and the boys have matured faster than you. Musically , they're ahead of the pack and year from now MAYBE you will see that. MAYBE. but I doubt it since your heads are so far up your own asses.

Tape Store, Sunday, 18 May 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

you have to take weezer for who they are, and this song is what weezer all over, you have to love it, that is if you really understand what weezer is all about, you know what i mean?

Tape Store, Sunday, 18 May 2008 16:24 (seventeen years ago)

I know right? I really like this song now. Weezer's a genius.

St3ve Go1db3rg, Sunday, 18 May 2008 16:39 (seventeen years ago)

I dont think the rap is that bad. I mean c'mon what do you expect? Its weezer, not grandmaster flash and the furious five. Besides, if you were haning out with one of your friends and all of a sudden they spit out that rhyme, you'd be like "thats awesome". but yeah song is solid.

St3ve Go1db3rg, Sunday, 18 May 2008 16:40 (seventeen years ago)

The more I hear by them, the less I understand the appeal of Weezer. I listened to Pinkerton in it's entirety not too long ago so I could finally see what the fuss was about. I listened to it a number of times, and frankly I can't remember any of the songs except "Tired of Sex," "Pink Triangle" and "El Scorcho," and yeah, they're good songs, but not nearly as incredible as they had been hyped up to be.

This new shit is pretty goofy. And I LIKE goofy (been listening to a lot of Todd Rundgren lately), but Rivers Cuomo just seems really really unbearable on songs like "Greatest Man"

Okay, so the Pork and Beans video is actually kind of funny.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muP9eH2p2PI

I think at this point they know they're a joke.

jonathan - stl, Friday, 23 May 2008 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, kind of a neat video. weezer was always known for goofy videos, though, they just used to have good songs to go with them.

Although hearing The Greatest Man that Ever Lived and the Heart Songs has made Pork and Beans sound a lot better.

St3ve Go1db3rg, Friday, 23 May 2008 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

I think music would be a better place if Rivers Cuomo had died in 1997 instead of absolutely everyone else that's died since, including, say, Laurie Lee or Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Dom Passantino, Friday, 23 May 2008 20:23 (seventeen years ago)

woah that video is lolz

chaki, Friday, 23 May 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)

Reminds me of the South Park I just saw last night.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 23 May 2008 21:37 (seventeen years ago)

weezer's legacy would certainly be a lot better. I'm fond of the theory that Rivers did die in 1997, at which point he was replaced with a lookalike/automaton/pod person.
