their concert last night set my pants on fire. your thoughts?

gayinNYC, Sunday, 3 April 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

Tonight you should see Aqueduct.

JC-L (JC-L), Sunday, 3 April 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

How were Mahi-Mahi?

shieldforyoureyes, Sunday, 3 April 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

It was indeed a very good show. I would've had a lot more fun if I was in a better mood, but that's nothing to do with the band, obvs. My only real complaint about the show is that they really need to add the ballads from the album to the setlist - they kind of play the whole show in the same mode and need to break up the mood a bit.

The setlist:

Beat Connection
Too Much Love
Give It Up
Daft Punk Is Playing At My House
On Repeat
Thrills
Tribulations
Movement
Jump Into The Fire (Harry Nilsson cover)
Losing My Edge
Slowdive (Siouxsie and the Banshees cover)
Yeah

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Sunday, 3 April 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Mahi Mahi suck, Dave. (I don't like LCD Soundsystem either.. but.. Mahi Mahi suck.)

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 3 April 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Daveeeeee.... where is the show tonight?

absolutego (ex machina), Sunday, 3 April 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

"Jump Into The Fire" really worked for me last night. I enjoyed pretty much everything, but for one reason or another, that song sparked something in me that the rest of the show did not. (Though "Yeah" and "Movement" are fantastic live.)

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Sunday, 3 April 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Mahi-Mahi fucking rule. Show's at Agnes. (Have you ever been there?
That little side-street behind Troy Street, right at the weird triangular
intersection on Dike Street.)

shieldforyoureyes, Sunday, 3 April 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

LCD's drummer is really the bizness.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 3 April 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

I've never been there, but my girlfriend is going tonight if she can figure out a way...

I am stuck in new york / terrible crappy academia, but I think I am going to try to go the Alfred show....

absolutego (ex machina), Sunday, 3 April 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

thanks dizzaVE

absolutego (ex machina), Sunday, 3 April 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

"Yeah" was off the fucking chain. I thought Mahi Mahi were entertaining for like 2 or 3 songs, then got pretty tiring. LCD was damn good tho.

Maciej, Monday, 4 April 2005 04:00 (twenty years ago)

What kind of band did they have (instruments-wise)?

Elliot (Elliot), Monday, 4 April 2005 05:03 (twenty years ago)

Somehow I wished "Where Is Love?" would be in the set list. But this is a minor quibble, and I wasn't there. So by all means, continue...I want a full report.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Monday, 4 April 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)

LCD were great in LA last year.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 4 April 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

Was anybody at the Wolf Eyes show on Friday? It was pretty great, I thought.

David Allen (David Allen), Monday, 4 April 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

Saw them last night - that Siouxsie cover was awesome!
A bit samey and whoever asked for a change of tempo upthread = OTM. Pretty good tho

Baaderonixxxorzh (Fabfunk), Friday, 15 April 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

Were you dancing?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 15 April 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

xpost
Me too. And as far as i can remember the setlist was exactly the same as the one posted upthread, except they started playing over rollin' & scratchin'. I was generally disappointed, but probably because my legs were too fucked from jumping up and down during Vitalic's set last Saturday.

barnabyrd, Friday, 15 April 2005 10:16 (twenty years ago)

Were you at the AB? Yeah, I think that was the exact same setlist. Starting on rollin & scratchin' was pretty ace, I thought.

Baaderonixxxorzh (Fabfunk), Friday, 15 April 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

the guy sitting in the chair in that white castle "plane of enlightenment/yoga" commercial kinda looks like j4mes murphy!

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 18 April 2005 04:59 (twenty years ago)

Apparently they'll be doing 'Daft Punk Is Plaing At My House' on Letterman this Wednesday night...

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 25 April 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

The news of this Siouxsie cover makes me happy beyond belief.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 25 April 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

i hope that guy bought new pants

shit think, shit think, shit quick (deangulberry), Monday, 25 April 2005 02:33 (twenty years ago)

I was meant to be going to see them in Bristol this week but can't make it, which is slightly gutting. Hence I am trying to avoid all mention of them being great live.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 25 April 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

anybody going to Santos for the dj set tonight?

carne asada, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:56 (seventeen years ago)

No

sonnyboy, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 23:00 (seventeen years ago)

they kicked my ass last sept @ acl

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 14 August 2008 03:20 (seventeen years ago)

new single starts off great then switches it up a bit and loses me towards the end. even the Babytalk remix doesn't really help. other new DFA singles (Mock & Toof, M&T remix of Holy Ghost, Notwave compilation sampler, new Juan Maclean) fare MUCH better.

BATTAGS, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

Any one go last night? Reports?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:36 (seventeen years ago)

saw the sf mahoney/murpy disco dj gig. it was very much in the vein of their fabriclive mix with some recent dfa tracks intermingled.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:41 (seventeen years ago)

I need to go to one of these Special Disco Version things. I think it's every other Wednesday? Santos is kinda awesome imo, went last Thursday when it was Plant Records upstairs, the Martinez Brothers downstairs (and on a side note -- Martinez bros. are teenagers?! they're great)

dmr, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

I think the older Martinez brother must be approaching 20 now, but still they're quite young.

matt2, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

they were fun. hadn't heard of em before. tonight the same party (Ete d'Amour) has Matthew Dear playing

new single starts off great then switches it up a bit

this is a new LCD single you're talkin about? or just something new on DFA

dmr, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:12 (seventeen years ago)

"big ideas"?

J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

that's their "newest" at least

J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

Results 1 - 4 of about 4 for "gaylex in nyc". (0.29 seconds)

and what, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:15 (seventeen years ago)

thx jordan, that one slipped by me somehow I guess. haven't heard it yet

dmr, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

it was for a soundtrack, so idk if that's what battags is talking about or not. i think their last "official single" was "time to get away" but that doesn't really fit his description

J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)

most recent thing I heard by them was that Freak Out / Starry Eyes track

dmr, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

Freak Out / Starry Eyes is amazing, but I dunno how I feel about "big ideas" , it was released for the soundtrack of 21, which i can't say i made it to see

other stuff on DFA out though, including Mock & Toof looks great though

san frandisco, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:46 (seventeen years ago)

i don't like the original of big ideas but think the babytalk rmx is ace, if a tad fast.

stirmonster, Friday, 15 August 2008 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, i'm talking about Big Ideas. Babytalk remix went in one ear and out the other, should i give it another shot?

BATTAGS, Friday, 15 August 2008 17:28 (seventeen years ago)

Never heard them, precisely because they seem to be targetting a niche of ageing-men-who-want-to-remain-hip. They're like a musical laptop bag.

PhilK, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:14 (seventeen years ago)

precisely because they seem to be targetting a niche of ageing-men-who-want-to-remain-hip.

Steve Shasta, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:22 (seventeen years ago)

I know, it's sad really. Why don't they take up fishing or gardening? It's far more dignified....

PhilK, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:28 (seventeen years ago)

well their first single kinda spells that all out for you in times square sized font... it's not like a hidden agenda or anything.

Steve Shasta, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:31 (seventeen years ago)

philk, you are old

jaxon, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:33 (seventeen years ago)

If I was going to live to be 200+, irony would be welcome at all times.

PhilK, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:33 (seventeen years ago)

I've never heard them but here's my challenging opinion

dmr, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:33 (seventeen years ago)

And so the long day wore on.....

PhilK, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

hello...does anybody have the LCD/Oasis mashup Wonderwall Tribulations that they can send to me? For undisclosed reasons...

James Murphy says 2010 LCD Soundsystem album will be band's last

http://www.nme.com/news/lcd-soundsystem/49215

We should have called Suzie and Bobby (NickB), Friday, 15 January 2010 12:45 (sixteen years ago)

Might have been posted already, but there are a billion different LCD threads.

"I know I said that last time and things changed," he explained, "but I don't like to repeat myself."

errr... (sloppy writing by the NME of course, but still funny)

willem, Friday, 15 January 2010 13:21 (sixteen years ago)

he also says not to believe him, more or less

"I don't like saying things like that because I realise people see them as proclamations of some sort, which is not how I feel at all," he said. "When I'm working on [a record] it makes sense to think of it as the last you'll ever do because then you make it good."

the fact that Bob Weston mastering the record increases the anticipation for the new album for me.

Zeno, Thursday, 25 February 2010 14:49 (fifteen years ago)

Likewise!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 25 February 2010 16:34 (fifteen years ago)

who's he? and what has he mastered before?

piscesx, Thursday, 25 February 2010 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

Used to be in Shellac, did the latest Fuck Buttons album mastering.

No, YOU'RE a disgusting savage (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 25 February 2010 17:06 (fifteen years ago)

He's still in Shellac, isn't he?

He was at least in the touring lineup when I've seen them a couple times in recent years.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 25 February 2010 17:49 (fifteen years ago)

also one of the greatest masters in mastering, esp. in the 90's indie rock

Zeno, Friday, 26 February 2010 22:00 (fifteen years ago)

Under Albini, Weston honed his studio production skills and has gone on to record and mix material for bands including Sebadoh, June of 44, Polvo, The Coctails, Archers of Loaf, The Delta 72, Chavez, Idlewild, Rachel's, Ken Vandermark, and Rodan. Bob Weston was also Albini's Assistant Engineer on Nirvana's In Utero album.

also was in Volcano Suns

Is the song in the Yves Saint Laurent video from the new album?

rennavate, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

Well, considering there are no vocals about 4 minutes into the thing, I would presume not. But I like it, nice track.

rennavate, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

six months pass...

You'd think they were Daft Punk, Ten City, the Clash and the Beatles combined based on the reviews of their live show Saturday at Virgin-Free Fest at Merriweather Post. They were good, but had moments that dragged and I wished they had done more songs from the Sounds of Silver album.

London Sessions has me baffled. Can't tell if I love it or hate it. The songs I love are pretty different from the album versions. On one hand, I appreciate that, on the other, the changes are pretty much all for the worst. Especially bad on I Can Change and All I Want.

brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

I have absolutely 0 desire to listen to a live LCD Soundsystem album.

This is Happening = one of 2010's best
