Inspired by his really lovely Farben-ish remix of Quarks' "Du Entkommst Mir Nicht", I've suddenly really felt the need to hear more of this guy's stuff. To date I've only heard the material on the Italic label comp and a few random tracks here and there. I've heard his most recent album is apparantly vaguely IDM-ish. Is it like this remix???

Mmm, obviously Rocket in Dub err...3 IIRC

Also search Love and other solutions album (I think you'll like it Tim), one of the cornerstones of my personal pipedream subgenre: lover's techno.

Omar (Omar), Monday, 4 April 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah and 'The Vogue' with Miss Kittin was pretty cool too.

Omar (Omar), Monday, 4 April 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

this tune is wicked!

it used to play on the italic site wehre there was tis little game where you could mix down all the different parts of the tune while a sexy dot matrix (?!) girl writhed around. it is real good.

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 4 April 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

Yes I used to play that game too Ambrose!

I have most of the Rocket In Dub stuff, plus "The Vogue" as it was on the Italic comp (I like it a lot but not as much as I flat out adore the M. Mayer remix). I think i need to get Love & Other Solutions.

I've always been enamoured by yr concept of "lover's techno" Omar - check that Quarks remix!

sorry to hijack tim finney's thread, but some more lover's techno searches would be ace.

stoleyourbike (stoleyourbike), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 07:07 (twenty years ago)

like maybe stuff situated between LOVE AND OTHER SOLUTIONS and f. knuckles' 'your love'.

stoleyourbike (stoleyourbike), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 07:11 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Frankie Knuckles - 'Your love'! I love that track.

more lover's techno searches

obviously der Superpitcher's 'Time to cry' (and a bunch of other stuff by him.)

and tracks like:

Luomo – 'Shelter', Herbert – 'Suddenly', Ulrich Schnauss – 'On My Own', Daft Punk – 'Something About Us', Gus Gus - 'Desire', Junior Boys – 'Under The Sun'.

Omar (Omar), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 07:47 (twenty years ago)

"Your Love" is the best track ever of course.

I'm not sure how specifically Omar uses the term but when I see it I think of stuff like:

Ada - Cool My Fire (I'm Burning)
RJ Project - What Colour Is Love (Monkeyhouse Mix)
Hombre Ojo - La Musica
Martini Bros - Boy/Girl
Richard Davis - Bring Me Closer
Schad Privat - One Night At The Disco
Oxtongue - Delight
Kohncke/Dorau - Durch Die Nacht (Wasserman Mix) - (lover's schaffel?)

Stuff that's equally songful, drony and dreamy (Superpitcher ownz obv).

An alternative definition: maybe minimal stuff that really kisses yr skin and is sneakily romantic, eg:

Glissandro Bros - Funk Food
A Rocket In Dub - Rocket No. 3 (of course)
Michael Mayer - Pensum (A2)
Herbert - Banquet (Herbert Remix)
Decomposed Subsonic - Last Flight
Random Inc - Meets Anton Qubikov @ Moscovia
M.R.I. - To Be Honest
Jan Jelenik etc. - Ifs, Ands & Buts

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

Lover's Schaffel POV:

Kohncke/Dorau - Durch Die Nacht (Wasserman Mix)
Michael Mayer - Amabile
Michael Mayer - Pensum (Markus Guentner Mix)
Superpitcher - The Long Way
Joachim Spieth - Nie Mehr Allein

I love all this stuff: lush and thick and gently tumbling into itself, like a basin of water being tipped from side to side. I'm not sure if there are any examples of it from outside Kompakt though (Borneo & Sporenburg's "Boys" is more pastoral schaffel).

I'm not sure how specifically Omar uses the term

not very Tim, i'm a genre-impurist, although I like it when there's a bit of catchphrase. Thanks for those lists btw (yes Michael Mayer also has produced a number of tracks in this "style", obviously 'Lovefood', but also 'Falling Hands' which uses the essential kissing angels/voice of E sound. Also on Total 4 a very obvious choice: Autobianchi - 'All Around')
Might as well add Miss Kittin - 'Happy Violentine' (and bits on her Radio Caroline mixcd).

It would be interesting to search for some Richie Hawtin sets around november-december 1999, that's when I first came up with the idea (after, the usual rattatatat workout we got an hour of Chain Reactionish minimal stuff full of fluffy/heavenly textures and sighs. One of my great dance floor memories, the Decks, FX & 909 cd features a plateau like this, but frustratingly just not that intense/in love)

two years pass...

Apparently he released an album last year, anyone heard it?
I really adore Steffan Schwander's work, those beautiful melodies and textures, ahhhhh, they make me feel better about life.

The last thing he released as far as I know was the Swimmingpool LP Good Old Music.

I just heard he's got a forthcoming album as Antonelli Electr. called Soulkiller on Italic:

"Italic would like to announce Antonelli's new album Soulkiller. It is Stefan Schwander (aka Antonelli)'s 6th album and was produced using analogue drum machines, synthesizers and sequencers only and recorded live without any overdubs onto an old-school tape recorder. The result is amazing: Antonelli's house music on Soulkiller is so incredibly rough and emotional that it reminds of the garage rock from the Stooges."
