I finally realized what "Banquet" reminds me of.

Adam, natch.

I finally heard the Bloc Party album at the record store where they were supposed to perform but didn't because the singer's voice was thrashed.

It sounds like, well, a harder earlier Bis.

I'll take Ant, thanks.

Heheheh, no wonder I like the Bloc Party. :-) (Not because of the Bis thing, yeepers!)

Both v. good but Adam is frickin' Adam, regrettable recent events aside. I'd be all for the Bloc Party recording a slew of brilliant albums and singles myself, but until then Mr. Ant and Mr. Pirroni and all are untouchable.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 4 April 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

The Bloc Party don't have enough percussion to be that comparable, I'd say.

In any case, while I like what I've heard from the Bloc Party, they're no Adam & the Ants (or not yet, at least).

Bizzarely enough, "Busted with Boobs"(TM) nu-pop act The Faders have been name-checking Adam In The Ants in pretty much every interview they've done so far. Which is weird, considering that Adam and the Ants had probably been split for about five years by the time their target audience had been born.

AATS, anyway.

Yeah, but this is true for most of these new bands. I mean, when were the guys in The Bravery born?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 4 April 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

haha seriously listen to the opening on "Banquet" and think about Adam. Add a horse whinny and it's "Stand And Deliver" and "Deliver" doesn't even have those basso profundo ahh-ahh's. "Banquet" does! They should sing about being pirates. I'd like these guys more if the singer had more personality.

Agreed.

Adam And The Ants I love, as do earlier Adam Ant solo. But they're not a band one should try to seek TOO much inspiration from.

Because then you get The Epoxies. And that's a bad thing.

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 4 April 2005 18:35 (twenty years ago)

please explain to me the "harder earlier Bis" thing, because i own nearly everything Bis put out and have been listening to the Bloc Party album pretty frequently over the past few weeks, and really fail to see the resemblance. BP is much more polished than Bis ever was in their earlier days, for one---in some cases, to their detriment (cf. album version of "She's Hearing Voices" vs. demo version)

that being said, threads like this are blatantly ridiculous, because how is a band with a single good album going to compare against a band with several really great albums? BP hasn't reached the same level of its career AATA did, so AATA will obviously win every time because they were more fully developed. :P

Music: Bloc Party
Image: Adam & The Ants

Music is obviously the most important of the two.
