"Let Me Try" -- Back in the USA by MC5
"Miss X" -- High Time by MC5

accurately described by Christgau as "atrocious fuck-me ballads." they're actually worse than that.

Surely this thread has been done umpteen times before?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

Beach Boys: "Student Demonstration Time"

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:03 (twenty years ago)

Doctor Robert and Yellow Submarine on Revolver. I can just about tolerate YS but press skip for DR every time.

"Jenny" on Sleater Kinney's "Dig Me Out"

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" to thread.

See also: "Last of the Steam-Powered Trains," though I'm sure I'll catch grief for that.

Curious George (1/6 Scale Model) (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

"Never Had No One Ever" on "The Queen is Dead"

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

Also: "Love Ain't for Keeping" on Who's Next.

Curious George (1/6 Scale Model) (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

"We Will Fall" is my personal pick for this distinction. Also, "Get Down and Get With It" on International Rescue (Swell Maps).

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

"Run For Your Life" on Rubber Soul. It's the sole reason Rubber Soul is not my favorite Beatles album.

"Run For Your Life" on Rubber Soul. It's the sole reason Rubber Soul is not my favorite Beatles album.

Heh. "Run for Your Life" is the ONLY REASON I bought Rubber Soul.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

"Chinese Arithmetic" on Paid in Full
"Don't Stop" on The Stone Roses

"Not Me" on It'll End in Tears by This Mortal Coil

Really? It was my second favourite after "Song to the Siren" I loved the guitar riff.

daavid (daavid), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

You have to admit, daavid, that it sticks out like a turd on a prayer rug next to the other tracks.

"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" to thread.

That one is GREAT

Like "Honey Pie", "Martha My Dear", "When I'm Sixty-Four" and most of all "Your Mother Should Know". All of them perfect pop songs, wonderfully non-American in their style!

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

Doctor Robert and Yellow Submarine on Revolver. I can just about tolerate YS but press skip for DR every time.

Agree about YS, but DR is GREAT. Particularly that "Well well well you're feeling fine" part. Classic English 60s pop!

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" is possibly my favorite Beatles song. Definitely my favorite on Abbey Road.
