Neonbabies?

I've finally heard their self-titled debut today, and I have to say, I'm very, very impressed (in fact, I'm saddened I didn't include this on the 1981 set).

All the information I can find on this band is in Deutsch, which I don't sprechen. Does anyone know anything?

To try and give a quick sketch--something like the Slits meets Human Switchboard meets Trio meets James Chance meets the Feelies meets the Pretenders, with a little PiL/Flying Lizards/Family Fodder thrown in for good measure. Maybe not as consistently astonishing as that description might suggest, but always enjoyable and in moments, sublime. At the very least, I'm amazed they're not talked about with/above Kleenex, Y Pants, Delta 5, all those bands people find after they've spent some time with the Raincoats and the Slits.

Perhaps they're better known in Germany than elsewhere?

So good.

Re: Neonbabies
Featured Teutonic thrush Inga Humpe before she teamed with her sister Annette in Humpe Humpe and Swimming With Sharks. Inga's 1990 CD "Planet Oz" featured collaborations with Trevor Horn, Thomas Fehlmann, Robert Fripp and Pet Shop Boys. She is currently in 2 Raum Wohnung with boyfriend Tommi Eckhart. Neonbabies album seemed a precursor to the angular "neo wave" of Humpe Humpe.

fourteen years pass...

So these guys are great (thanks IM for making me discover them!). No-one else on ILX into them?

Wow, checking Discogs and they've still not been reissued in any way? Seem ripe for a reasonably-priced box set from original masters (though I guess these days just straight-up LP reissues would be more en vogue).

They weren't that hard to find on original vinyl 14 years ago, and from prices on Discogs don't look like they are now. But still, a CD reissue would be great to collect all the singles etc. Seems like the label that reissued Units and Our Daughters Wedding etc. would b e good fit?

oh I love this band too, I found them from the (excellent) Verschwende Deine Jugend: Punk Und New Wave In Deutschland 1977-1983 compilation
