I could not, at the time, believe what The Pixies looked like when I first saw the "Here Comes Your Man" video [Record sleeves were little help, and I certainly wasn't reading the NME or whatever as a wee lad].

I was a bit shocked at my first Nomeansno gig when I saw this Phil Donahue lookalike roadie guy walking around the stage setting stuff up, and he turned out to be Rob Wright, the bassist/vocalist/frontman... (later, when Newt Gingrich became a known figure in politics, I was convinced it was Rob Wright in disguise)

Having heard all that pre-Bossa Nova stuff without a single clue, I'd constructed a more stereotypically evil and psychotic, perhaps even leather-clad, image in my head. Like the Cramps maybe. Hehehe. I suspect that was just me though.

Then the "Here Comes Your Man" clip just made them all look so sweet, even if that bizarre lip-synching did little to reassure me about the psychosis.
