...and U2 covered it....needlessly.

I think that U2 specializes in needless covers - see Rattle and Hum for proof.

Tricky covered it, too. It's probably the best thing he's done. Then again, I can't stand Tricky.

Oh God. I like U2 and all, especially their earlier albums, but WOW do I hate them for making Rattle and Hum. That is seriously the most punchable album I can think of from my high school days and Skid Row and Winger were on the scene back then.

"Pop Muzik" was also covered by a lot of no-name new wave acts in the early 80s.. There are at least three different covers from that era. I only own one of them somewhere, and I still couldn't remember who the artist(s) was/were...

Wow, Tricky covered it? I'd be curious to hear that.

It was a B-side, Alex. I forget which single.. hmmm. It's what you'd expect, though. Really dark... he speaks the lyrics out in monotony. It neatly recontextualizes the song.

Anyone ever hear the split 7" they did with Londen Dundin?

I had 'M' on my radio show a few months ago. His name's Robin Scott and lives in Brighton and, amongst other things I imagine, is putting his name behind a monthly unsigned bands night called White Label.

Nice guy, but not too sure he liked the fact that I spent the whole interview talking about the past glories of Pop Muzik rather than his present (not so venerated) achievements.
