Basically, I'll be co-DJing at Seattle's best bar ever, THE LAVA LOUNGE Thursday, January 24th from 9pm to 2am. If you happen to be in town or live near town and want to come to say hi, I welcome you with open arms ("I KISS YOU!!!!!!!!"). Yes, the music will be somewhat rockist, but rockist WIV WUV!

Mark, it's possible none of those places were there when you lived there. Was the Rendezvous in existence? It's two blocks away.
Belltown used to be pretty much empty. There was a bar on 1st or 2nd called The Front Room that was a fun dive to get a beer in. And there was a great new/used bookstore on 2nd Ave (I think it was called Second Avenue Books, actually -- owned by this guy who dressed like Henry Miller in the 30s) that I used to browse. But it was otherwise empty -- and cheap to live in, too.
I lived at the corner of Olive and, I want to say Bellevue? The base of Capitol Hill. It was accross from a convenience store and a gay bar called The Tacky Tavern. Also, a pizza place called The Olive Tree. Haven't been back in a long time, I'm sure it's changed.
Where do you live, Brian?
Bellevue and Olive... that's a fun little corner these days, actually (or is that Olive and Denny?). Fallout records, a nice breakfast place, two dance record stores now (Beats International and Compound records), Coffee Messiah, Apocalypse Tattoo, and many other things.

"The Ave" is pretty analogous to Telegraph Ave in Berkeley... except, according to Kris, the kids here are less ugly. Also, The Ave is a little bigger. You have a lot for really big & tall ex-Canadian teen girls with reverse pink mohawks that wear black leather jackets with Crass patches who end up being about as punk as Blink 182. And lots of little speed twinkies and salty sailor beggars.
Not really a main artery for hip musical acts, though there's the great all ages venue The Paradox, where many a hardcore/indie show takes place. theparadox.org if you want to investigate.
All parts of Seattle are quite busable. I know of a few that go between the U-district and Belltown.. Otherwise, maybe it's a 15 minute drive, figuring in traffic and parking spot searches?
I went ahead and transcribed and scanned the playlist for that night. You can see the actual playlist scan HEEEERRRREEEEE!!! (I'm disappointed that I didn't get drunk enough to render this playlist completely illegible as it went on.. in fact, it's quite legible all the way through.. what the fuck!)
But I also transcribed it below for those of you not patient enough to load four semi-biggish jpgs, if you have a slow connection that is. Here's the little icon definitions:
And here we go:
There. Come again soon!
