well, total arse that i am, i didn't make it to Hood last night for a variety of shit reasons.

i may go to Eat Your Own Ears tonight (Ovuca, Aphex, Cylob, DMX Krew), but that may be sold out (shoreditch massif innit?), otherwise may go up to leeds for weekend and Strangeways tonight and/or Brighton Beach (gah!) tomorrow.

None this week. Gigs coming up: Notwist/Orange Black, BMRC, Le Tigre and Strokes. Last gig I went to was probably Kid606/GoldChains.

I haven't been to a gig in ages. But I'm going to see Check Engine and Mrs Pilgrimm on Monday. I've never heard anything by them tho'. The flyer says Mrs Pilgrimm are "Bjork meets Tom Waits in a strange CELLO market on a Tuesday morning". Err, yeah. Anyone know anything about these bands? Check Engine are form Chicago as far as I know.

Last night. I've got about three hours of sleep. Hurrah for slow work. http://www.alchemy-dc.com/

I went to see St Thomas on Wednesday. The guy is just a genius. His songs are moving, funny, catchy, pure pop music, so beautiful.

I can highly recommedn Saloon, they're really great.

I went to some launch party thing last night that Mark Rae from Rae & Christian was DJing at, but it wasn't much cop.

I'M ON THE EDGE OF BURMA!

(Forgive me for being over-exuberant.)

David Raposa, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nothin' happening. Right now I'm waiting on a clutch of good shows at the end of February.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

eat yr own ears is sold out. how is wish i was 200 miles south of here.

this is the 2nd time you have missed dmx krew gareth. poor performance....

ambrose, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i always miss dmx krew. it is stupid, i have only seen him once i think (at the orbit, where the crowd gobbed on him because they didn't like him!).

gareth, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I saw Godspeed You Black Emperor! this week and since I had seen them four times before, I was expecting same old same old. But man, that was the LOUDEST show I've been to. Six stacked speakers on each side of the stage, with each cranked up to 11 in a small-ass venue. Surprises are fun.

alex in montreal, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Did they play that one song that starts off quiet, gets loud and then gets quiet again?

well, total arse that i am, i didn't make it to Hood last night for a variety of shit reasons.

And I'm listening to Cold House right now, thinking it is quite great, and must therefore condemn you to folly. Or something.

Saw Cave In / Forstella Ford on Tuesday. V impressed by Cave In. V unimpressed by FF.

Saw Dressy Bessy / Saloon on Thursday. Fell deeply and eternally in love with Tammy Ealom. Saloon good in a poppier-Broadcast/Electrelane-with-rehearsals sort of way.

Did they play that one song that starts off quiet, gets loud and then gets quiet again?

In fact, they only played that one song the whole night.
