HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

unix must die

a banana (alanbanana), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

How do you do that by mistake?

mr. drew (mr. drew), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

maybe he wanted to do some Unix sex rimming with the "rapid" option, and horribly mistyped the command?

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Now I want to listen to the Sex Execs (underrated early 80s new wave band from Boston). Have no idea why.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

it was only on the development server --- but it was in the webroot for our main domain.

also: i posted on the wrong board!

Alex in TCBY (ex machina), Thursday, 7 April 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

You think!?!?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 7 April 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

That's why I'm trying to turn this into a Sex Execs thread instead!

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 7 April 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

SUEXEC RM -R * is a fucking AWESOME name for a noise band though...

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

their first album comes with a sticker explaining how to pronounce the name.

Lee F# (fsharp), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Could a mod move this to ILE?

Luckily when my boss did this I was standing next to him and shouted HIT CONTROL C! It only had deleted numeric directories through "C".

We called the sysadmins to have them do a restore on it and we got a few phone calls about people losing files, no huge deal -- backup is run nightly. But the UNIX morons fucked up the restore and we had Biology grad students calling all afternoon.

So on top of that, today I also rolled out My First Real Application that is 100% my baby. It is version 2.0 of our school's content management system. It is used by 600+ people.

I had crazy bugs to squash all day. Thank god I started smoking.

Alex in TCBY (ex machina), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

"SUPERUSER RECURSIVELY REMOVES THE WORLD"

Although I think the noise band would be more hardcore if the name was:

suexec rm -rf *

"SUPERUSER RECURSIVELY REMOVES THE WORLD WITH FUCKING FORCE!"

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

you want an F in there to really screw things up rm -fr *

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

This should be an A-Frames single.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

The techno/noise/whatever-its-called laptop guy "/dev/null" runs Windows.
FUCK. HIM.

shieldforyoureyes, Thursday, 7 April 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

Yet another reason why UNIX is absolutely fucking awful.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 7 April 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

the actual command line was

"suexec rm -r deploy/ *"

uhhhhh way to go bossman.

Alex in TCBY (ex machina), Thursday, 7 April 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

The techno/noise/whatever-its-called laptop guy "/dev/null" runs Windows.
FUCK. HIM.

Or at least get M1cr0s0ft lawyers to force him to change his name to "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\TEMP"

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 7 April 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

"rm -rf /" is the REAL fucker

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

The closest I ever came to doing something like this was that I once
managed to newfs the raw drive of a mirrored pair. I lost a few small
files to RAID confusion before I realized what was up an took that drive
out of the mirror.
