If we accept that Hot Fuss by The Killers is one of the ten greatest albums ever then what are the chances they can follow it up with a Dog Man Star type triumph?

Oh how you were missed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

What's up with these threads that just make ridiculous claims? There's going to be nothing but misery and sadness here.

mike h. (mike h.), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Best Bands of ALL TIME!

1. Beatles
2. Killers

i'm bored, i'm gonna go grab lunch.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Hey Ned. Were you invited to the Sin City party in LA? Eh?

Z-Freak, Friday, 8 April 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

The more important question is whether or not we can accept that since The Kills is one of the ten greatest albums ever then what are the chances they can follow it up with a Dogstar type triumph?

Maybe Calum wil want to contribute to Growing Up In Scotland in the 70s or 80s.

and the other scotland threads that were revived.

Robbie j, Friday, 8 April 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

If Ned Were Invited To The Sin City Party, Would He Show Up In A Banana Suit To Honor Nicky Wire, Or Would He Send His Fit Co-Worker To Shag Me Rotten?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

Hey Ned. Were you invited to the Sin City party in LA? Eh?

I don't believe you're invited to the fine get-together a few friends of mine down here are having tomorrow night at one couple's house, where we'll be feasting on a variety of excellent Japanese and Chinese dishes, all homemade by the various chefs involved. I'm contributing a bottle of sake. There'll be talking into the night over any number of stories and issues and chat and things, the various kids who will be attending are all cool as well, and Mojo the dog is the very definition of friendly enthusiasm. It's going to be a lovely treat, and the fact that we have a similar get-together every month makes it something steady and satisfying for all of us, a good tight circle of friends.

MUCH better than being a slavering fanboy famewhore, but hey, your boat, it floats. Like other things.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

Would this thread be appropriate for me to finally declare that, "Somebody Told Me" and one other great song (that I forget the title of) regardless, Hot Fuss is in fact as crap as everyone here's been saying all along? ILM I AM SORRY I DOUBTED YOU (but the Rapture still kicks yr ass, sorry)

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

bOOOOOOOOring Neddy boy.

You coming to Cannes?

Z-Freak, Friday, 8 April 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

The song title you're looking for, Nate = "Senor Brightside-o"

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

No, I don't like that one. I mean "Midnight Show".

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

I wish I could agree with this.

However, I could see the album aging well and the flaws growing on me.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Don't let the glare from the Grammy nominations & Brandon Flowers' combination skin disguise the TAINT, Dr. Bill!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

"Mr. Brightside" is one of the finest songs written by my generation.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

the assertive chorus, the wounded pre-chorus, the faux-flippant chorus! the swwon of the instrumental break! repeat! REPEAT!

miccio (miccio), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

Anthony--curious to hear your thoughts about the JLC remix of "Mr. Brightside".

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

haven't heard it!

miccio (miccio), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

I love Mr. Brightside (and its better than JLC remix, however strongly i wish there was a GREAT dance version)

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

oh and I meant the assertive VERSE (and "swoon"). I need little screen to stop me that says "proofread yet?" before I post.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

Wait, what's the chorus and what's the verse? To my ears, "Mr. Brightside" is three prechoruses and a coda! And that's what I love about it!

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

i was going mainly from the lyrics by spacing them out, but musically yeah that's basically it.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

Is the song "Mr. Brightside" that people mention a lot here the one that sounds like Feeder or something & the words are about a dozy girl & the chorus ends "Cos I'm Mr. Brightside!"?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

yes. NOW. he takes off her dress. NOW. let me go...

miccio (miccio), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

"Mr. Brightside" is fantastic indeed, and there's a great (un)intentional dick joke in there:

Now they’re going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it’s all in my head
But she’s touching his—chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, let me go

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

Anthony:

Mr. Brightside (Jacques Lu Cont Remix)"

I hesitate to say it's as good as the original...but really, both are five-star songs. Totally different ones, at that.

I love Mr. Brightside (and its better than JLC remix, however strongly i wish there was a GREAT dance version)

Yeah, that would be fucking hot--have you heard the Mylo remix of "Somebody Told Me," though? Proves that The Killers are indeed the best disco band in ages.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

One of the ten greatest albums ever? Uh, let's get real. More like one of the three greatest albums ever.

sleep (sleep), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

You know, that really lovely bit in Everything will be Alright where he goes, "I'm dreaming about your dreamy eyes" makes it perfect beyond perfect.

Z-Freak, Friday, 8 April 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

One of the ten greatest albums ever? Uh, let's get real. More like one of the three greatest albums ever.

beautiful.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

thanks for the mp3, dude! Easily one of the best remixes I've heard in ages, though I do miss the amped-up backdrop. Really does emphasize the similarity to Underworld the vocal has.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

It's the best argument I've heard as to why the Killers are supposed to be so 80s-sounding.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Im confused. Is this thread chock full of sarcasm or should I just back out slowly?

jmeister (jmeister), Friday, 8 April 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

it's chock full of c-zarcasm

Masked Gazza, Friday, 8 April 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

i normally just refrain from posting on threads like this, but there wasn't enough haterade flowing yet:

BOLLOCKS^3!!!!!!!!

xpost - street teamer #1 your work is done!!

OMG TEH KILLRS R00000lZ, Friday, 8 April 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

Doesn't a life of incessant hyperbole tire you out, Z-freak? It's like, the worst thing in the world ever.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Friday, 8 April 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

I've actually just started quite liking "Somebody Told Me", for some reason. Also, the SOUND of that "Jenny" song, with that bass and synth backdrop etc is REALLY GREAT though the tune is a bit meh.

OleM (OleM), Friday, 8 April 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

Everytime I see this thread on the new answers page it just makes me smile and go "aw bless". So I thought I'd drop by and say thanks for that.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 8 April 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

the bass on "Jenny" is, indeed, killer.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 8 April 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

I think the JLC remix of "Mr Brightside" is much better than the original actually. The changing synth work really brings out emotional nuances in the vocals that just aren't present in the original, which sounds a bit blaring in comparison. Mind you I heard the remix first so that might colour my opinion.
