HEY GUESS WHAT KURT COBAIN IS DEAD ELEVEN YEARS AGO

billstevejim, Friday, 8 April 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait, crap... Well it's the 8th here anyway. I was looking for an Ash song that I forgot the title of and I put in my tape of Peel's 94 festive 50 and it played "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" and then I just remembered that the 8th is the day. In case you care.

Did he actually die on the 4th or 5th and was found on the 8th?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

Geez, I have only heard one Nirvana song on the radio the whole day, and I haven't even made an effort to listen to a Nirvana album today. I actually started the day off with "Night Time"! This just makes me feel wierd right now as I remember what day it is and how Alex feels about this. I did that unintentionally and it actually makes me kind of want to laugh right now.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 02:33 (twenty years ago)

Yes, it's important to always remember how Alex feels about things.

George Norn, Saturday, 9 April 2005 02:46 (twenty years ago)

Yes.

He's the last person I'd want to offend.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

I remember what day it is and how Alex feels about this

What is there "to feel" about it? The guy was a miserable mess who chose to end his life horribly, causing what I can only imagine was great suffering for his family and loved ones. It was simply a waste, and pretty selfish, considering he was leaving behind a child.

As far as the nation of stupid Nirvana fans who deify him, I do not share their pain.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

There you go expressing your emotions right there. You are in complete denial. Your feelings may not be sincere, but they're there. Or maybe you just like to hate everything you don't exactly like and let everyone know.

All I know is, if I don't give a damn about something, I don't say a word about it. I think if you truely don't have any feelings about this, you shouldn't even say anything about it the next time this day comes around.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

HI AJA!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, hey.

"What's up my crony?" (A little inside joke I have with my friend at school. I wrote this on the back of my graduation picture I gave to her today.)

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

He died on the 5th

buck van smack (Buck Van Smack), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:35 (twenty years ago)

All I know is, if I don't give a damn about something, I don't say a word about it.....

I didn't say I didn't give a damn. I'm merely expressing my disdain for the whole notion of commemorating it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

Oh, shut up!

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

No, YOU shut up.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

Now I see why I missed you.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:52 (twenty years ago)

[sarcasm]Wow I REALLY CARE about this.[/sarcasm]

What's with not spelling his first name correctly in the title of the thread, btw?

The Silent Disco of Glastonbury (Bimble...), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:55 (twenty years ago)

It's because that's how Kurt spelled it in in the day's of Bleach.

Whoops. I almost forgot about how much you care about this particular subject.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

how are the nuns treating you these days?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:01 (twenty years ago)

Ok. And by the way, they're not nuns, they're sisters. We actually had to have a test on that this week. She did not give us that test back yet, but the Social Studies test we took the day before is sitting in my desk right now. A+! Didn't even spend my usual five minutes studing for it.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

Nuns + Nirvana = ?

The Silent Disco of Glastonbury (Bimble...), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

you didn't have the week off, for the pope's funeral?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

they're not nuns, they're sisters

Ummm....is there a difference?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:08 (twenty years ago)

Nope, not for the Pope. We watched most of the funeral in class today. We had to have Math sooner because of this. We had a sub who is actually now our full time P.E. teacher now (some controversal thing with our last one). He looks like Chris Brokaw and it's kind of scaring me, but it's made it easier for me to talk to him. I've only known him for three days and he knows where I was born, what highschool I'm going to, and what I want to do in life. Also about my scholarship. He made fun of me for being "so smart", but it paid off becaus I actually helped him understand the Math he was supposed to be teaching us.

"Breed" was just on.

they're not nuns, they're sisters

Ummm....is there a difference?

-- Alex in NYC (vassife...)

Did you learn anything in the 14 years of Catholic school you had?

Nuns stay in the convent and pray and sisters are active in the ministry. (At least that's what I wrote on my test. If that's wrong, I'm goning to get a C!!! Holy S*%#!)

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

Nope, it was all bong hits and Iron Maiden, sorry.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:18 (twenty years ago)

well, you've been missed aja. you're always welcome to come back and post!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:18 (twenty years ago)

Did you only go for Highschool and College then?(xpost)

Thanks Eisbar.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

alex exaggerates -- he did well enough to get into a good college! he couldn't have been a TOTAL stoner.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:20 (twenty years ago)

I actually didn't really discover the gifts from Father Bong until college.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

'What is there "to feel" about it? The guy was a miserable mess who chose to end his life horribly, causing what I can only imagine was great suffering for his family and loved ones. It was simply a waste, and pretty selfish, considering he was leaving behind a child.'

what do you think of ian curtis then?

latebloomer: strawman knockdowner (latebloomer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

I can't speak for Alex, but I feel the same about both of them. I might like JD's music a lot more, but it doesn't make their singer's suicide any less selfish or stupid.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 9 April 2005 05:30 (twenty years ago)

He didn't have a kid though, did he?

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

he did have one!

latebloomer: strawman knockdowner (latebloomer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 05:33 (twenty years ago)

Are you serious? I never knew that.

Why the hell did he kill himself then? Was he also high on drugs at the time>

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 05:34 (twenty years ago)

I can't speak for Alex, but I feel the same about both of them. I might like JD's music a lot more, but it doesn't make their singer's suicide any less selfish or stupid.

Bingo!

Ian has a daughter.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 05:37 (twenty years ago)

Why are they all daughters?

Whatever. I think Kurt was worse because he left Francis with Courtney. That's not selfish, that's crazy.

Was Ian married to the mother of his child? Geezz, I really need to do research on JD.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 05:40 (twenty years ago)

Yes, he did have a daughter. Nothing I've ever read has led me to believe he was on drugs at the time he did it, though.

The Silent Disco of Glastonbury (Bimble...), Saturday, 9 April 2005 05:46 (twenty years ago)

Married, but having grave problems (pardon the pun). Ian was having an affair with some German tart.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 05:54 (twenty years ago)

I see.

If I get in the music business and so does my husband, I hope I have a boy first. If I have a child and my husband kills himself, I won't have any help from my mom. I've already talked to her about when I have kids and she says "I'm not going to be that kind of grandma that stays home and takes care of the grand kids," and I know she doesn't mean she'll be at work.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 05:58 (twenty years ago)

Nothing I've ever read has led me to believe he was on drugs at the time he did it, though.

Some people think that his epilepsy meds were messing with his head and that this contributed to the cause of his suicide.

I don't know enough to completely rule out that theory, but IC was a terribly depressed individual for years, so if the meds were screwing with his head, then they were a symptom of his condition (one of many), not the root cause.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 9 April 2005 06:35 (twenty years ago)

Did you learn anything in the 14 years of Catholic school you had?

In telling my mom about our discussion about nuns and sisters and this response I gave to Alex, we discovered that Alex could have only gone to 13 years of Catholic school maximum because my mom doesn't think there are any Catholic colleges he might have gone to.

So I have this question, were you held back a grade Alex? Or is there some other as to you having 14 years of a Catholic education?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 10 April 2005 04:04 (twenty years ago)

there are LOTS of catholic colleges, aja. i went to one myself, for law school!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 10 April 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

That's what I told my mom, but she was all, "No, I don't think so."

Aja (aja), Sunday, 10 April 2005 04:16 (twenty years ago)

six years pass...

lol
