I can't lie, I love his voice (and singing style). Anyone else?

My fifth grade teacher was his bassist's stepfather — seeing as I was the only kid in the class who gave a shit about Eddie Money, when the guy introduced me to him, I was BLOWN THE FUCK AWAY.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 11 April 2005 06:53 (twenty years ago)

I like "Can't Go Bac" and the gonzo craziness of "Take Me Home Tonight" (Ronnie Spector singing like Eddie was one of the Shirelles or something).

Is it a backhanded compliment to say I think of him as a kinder, gentler Meatloaf? He was bombastic, but with more finesse than the Loaf or, sorry to bring him to thread, Billy Joel.

Eddie Money is way better than Meat Loaf but it is a very instructive comparison.

The Mad Puffin (The Mad Puffin), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

He was that generation's Kid Rock.

ZionTrain, Monday, 11 April 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

Two tickets to paradise! Awesome song. An AOR classic.

"Shakin'" was a weird video.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, count one more fan for "Two Tickets to Paradise". I don't really like "Baby Hold On to Me" though. I have trouble believing that he was better than Meat Loaf (even though those are the only two songs I know by him).

the fucker that will burn you (sundar), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

He used to be a firefighter.

This was the one my mom used to play incessantly when I was a kid (it's his first, I think with 'Two Tickets'):

You sure it wasn't a cop?

Ken L (Ken L), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

yeah, it was cop.

"Officer Mahoney"

.. I loved Can't Keep a Good Man Down. I think I mentioned this a few years ago - that I loaned the first two Eddie Money albums, along with Steely Dan's Aja to a kid in junior high, and he never gave them back - even though he only lived two doors away. But after a year or so, i didn't really care to get them back anymore. And I've replaced Aja three times since then. He died last year. The kid died last year by the way. I was sad that it happened. But now I know I'll never EVER get those records back.

I sold him a taco once. I called him "mr. money" when I gave him change. he wasn't ammused.

Dennis, Monday, 11 April 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

"Here's your money, Mr Money" .. ?

Reminds me of a friend who served Brent Musberger: "Here's you hamburger, Mr. Musberger."

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 11 April 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

Mark otm re: "shakin'" video. first saw that on beavis'n'butthead ("woah, how did he make that sound with his mouth?") and taped it off VH1 Classic years later. Probably the ugliest mugging I've ever seen. Seems to be trying to look retarded.

My ex-girlfriend once sold a cappuccino to Al Pacino.

OK, Pandora's box has been opened.

Has anyone ever served a Beignet to David Benoit?

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

I sold a yoyo to Yoko Ono.

A banana to Bono.

A muumuu to Uma.

A blowjob to Kurtis Blow.

The Mad Puffin (The Mad Puffin), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

"i think i'm in love" is probably his best tune, that one holds up pretty well

velko, Saturday, 2 August 2008 07:49 (seventeen years ago)

My favorite Eddie Money song is I Wanna Go Back. It's a by-the-numbers 80s track, but there's an emotional, desperate quality to his voice in that song.

Daniel, Esq., Saturday, 2 August 2008 11:25 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I like it too.

two years pass...

Normally the kind of thing that goes right by me, but I heard "Two Tickets to Paradise" on the way into work this morning, and did they ever steal the guitar solo from "Reelin' in the Years" (it comes out a little sideways). I know some of those Steely Dan guys were ubiquitous session people in the '70s, so it could even be the same guitarist.
