So was there a thread yet about Mylo's essential mix?

So Mylo has mixed, like, my favourite tracks right now... I'm thinking/guessing/hoping the ones I don't know will be as awesome as the ones I do.

Dieter Schmidt - 'Morse Code from the Cold War' (Kitsune)

: )

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Looks ok but perhaps a little too painfully trying to be hip.

Zedman, Monday, 11 April 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

this isn't meant to sound as snotty or nasty as it's going to look once i type it i'm sure, but...

if you're judging a mix by how "hip" the tracklisting looks instead of listening to it, then you might question who's the one "painfully trying to be hip"

rentboy (rentboy), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

Is the mixing competent and well thought out then? I remember a bunch of people on the Mylo thread calling him out as an awful DJ as far as mixing and transitions go.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

Well, until I listen to it I can only judge it by its looks...

... and it *is* hip. I don't know how painful has it been for Mylo to make it so, though.

Diego Valladolid (dvalladt), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

whats that dahlback mix of the knife like?

jermaine (jnoble), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

what's hip about it? it could just as easily be accused of being obvious, soulwax, jacques, tiefschwarz.

Mylo is lots of things, hip is surely not one of them. Unpretentious.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

So its not about whether or not they play good songs, its about how they play them?

Oh, riiiiiiight.

Xii (Xii), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Last year I could have played a Mylo song from a Hed Kandi compilation and look painfully unhip to my friends. Now even they like Mylo, he who remixed The killers. I'd say he's becoming very hip by association but what do I know.

Diego Valladolid (dvalladt), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

hang on, surely that makes him unhip?

this is confusing.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

Can't really be bothered commenting on the hip thing, but it's an improvement mixing wise so far (though only 4 tracks in). Still not all that smooth to my ears - into Rex's Depeche Mode mix they've dumped the essential mix jingle over his crossover cos it sounds dodgy.

MattR (MattR), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

If I met a hipster who liked the Killers or Mylo I would shop them to the hipster authorities.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

so wait, it's unhip to be hip, but it's hip to be unhip?
clear as an autumn sky of deepest blue, clear as an unmuddied lake

rentboy (rentboy), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

Hah, Ronan I really don't know where I'm trying to get. I don't really mind if it is actually hip or obvious, or hip because it's obvious, or hip but unpretentious. All I know is that for a certain Madrid crowd remixing The Killers suddenly made Mylo a name to drop. Madrid, etc.

Diego Valladolid (dvalladt), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

DJ Hell should be the next Dr Who. Or maybe the Master.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

does Mylo need to be trying to be hip/unhip/whatever?
looks not likely

oh well maybe to try to reduce the need to incert jingles in his mix
but anyway, there's a forgiving crowd out there, right?

nique (nique), Monday, 11 April 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

How the hell is remixing Moby hip in any way?

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 11 April 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

did that tiga public enemy cover actually come out, then, or is it still a white label?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

it's out or is just about to come out on pias.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 11 April 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

props for playing out with 'Asphyx'! tho i always see that as a tune to start with...

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 11 April 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

this mix is pretty awesome, but personally i think the david guetta and silicone soul essential mixes are just as awesome, and not as painfully hip. ;-)

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

Did anybody rip it to mp3? Care to share? Streaming is for suckaz...

Jacob (Jacob), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)
